Description
I love sabertooth cats so much... maybe I should be less of an Arcanine and more of something awesome like this... look, I even kept the markings.Just a test, no refs used. Didn't go for any species in particular yet. Which would I pick? Homotherium perhaps, or Machairodus, or even the crazy Xenosmilus?

Homotherium for sure. Can't go wrong with those^^ Of course you're classic Smilodon fatalis is always cool or maybe the bulkier Smilodon populator.

Eurgh, I know nothing about those Cat species XD
Shifting to a sabertooth would be cool, but I bet you'd miss that big fluffy tail

Yeah, Machairodus has the body type of those three that looks most familiar to us, more like a pantherine cat, and it has the longest tail. At the moment I think I'd rather pick a cat that has the typical derived built. ^^ Lil waggy tail, sloping back and all. But still, Machairodus is so pretty.

Ahh, I see. I'm particularly fond of Machairodus because of it's odd-shaped head, but I see what you mean by it looking more pantherine.

Share your anatomy skills. Shaaaaaaaare them *grabs wildly*. Omg I could SO see Taci as a super-sexy sabre. Omgalliterationforthewin. Her colors and markings translate REALLY nicely, in my opinion! That rust-orange and those browns are so loveeeeely. Fff whatever you do the answer should be DRW MOAR SABURS PLZ.

Yep that's a nice cat but I'd rather pick a European species, and at the same time perhaps make it more known... everyone knows S. populator already.

I like them but to be honest I don't know nearly enough about Nimravids. Also I'd like something that's really catlike, and while the Nimravids may have a cat skeleton, they might have looked and acted really different... I would make a cat out of them when I could just go true Felid to begin with. ^^ But thanks for the suggestion. The swift Dinaelurus or the hulking Barbourofelis...

If it helps, everything I know of sabretoothed cats or near-cats is from this wonderful (and illustrated!) book on the subject. Highly recommended

I got that one too but the section on Nimravids is short iirc?

I also use Wikipedia and various taxonomy sites on the web The Nimravids has both conical-toothed (Nimravus and Dinaelurus) and sabre-toothed (Barburofelis) species, and probably were able to hybridise, so who knows?

There's just one problem with sabertooths: they're dead. War of Rage assured this

Actually, the Khara died out because they annoyed Selene and she cursed them.

That's your version. You just don't want to admit that werecats are weaker . (I know, we have an accord but old habits die hard

Ehm, it's in the breed book? And the Khara stats are even crazier than that of the Khan (Umbra, rules section on Pangea)

Tacimur In reply to HeartofGaia [2010-11-21 19:32:11 +0000 UTC]
Breed book 2nd edition, Umbra 3rd edition, but in 3rd edition there's no more mention of the Khara as a race at all. The only hint at them is the stats of the ancestral bastet forms in the Umbra book.
