Jadili was starting to realize the importance of separating the duties of the Guard and the Heir Apparent. Or future duties rather-

Patrols were a practice, with him leading his future Guard along the edges of the territory under the watchful gaze of the Majordomo of Mbala. It was just practice!

Jadili understood this.

It's just apparently his younger brother didn't know this, and once they'd heard the splashing in the stream running along the territory-

Jaribu had immediately leapt off the stony cliffside and towards the stream with a shriek of “Trespassers!”

It didn’t take him long to chase after the younger cub with a yelp and cry- he could already hear the Majordomo squawking as he tried to settle down the other cubs.

Jaribu- he wasn’t even supposed to be on the mock patrol, he’d only joined because their father had given him permission. After all, Janja had waved a paw, “we took you on plenty of Royal lessons!”

As if Jadili hadn’t been training with Vitani in Ndona for moons now! Learning what and what not to do! Jaribu didn’t know anything apparently!

He was currently across the stream, surrounded by a small group of Meerkats hissing and posturing at the much larger cub- “how dare you!” The cub snarled, stepping towards the group that skittered away with growls, “entering Mbala without permission!”

“Jaribu!” Jadili jumped across the stream, “stop it!” He growled and glanced at the Meerkats- a bunch of teens from the look of it, “we can’t just-“

“And they can’t just steal our water either,” Jadili snapped at him and showed his teeth at the group.

“Your water?” A meerkat shot forward with a shriek, eyes blazing, “that there is OUR water, punk!” They arched their back and looks close to swiping at the cub.

Lowering his head, he snarled loudly in their face, “That water is property of the Mbala Kingdom, rodent!” He hopped in place, and snapped hollowly in front of them.

“Rodent?” The meerkat asked, sounding almost scandalized, “do you have ANY idea who you’re speaking to?”

Jaribu scoffed, “I don’t need your name, I just need you gone,” he leaned forward.

The Meerkat stiffened up, and suddenly lurched forward with a shriek, “WHY YOU-!”

Jadili had his paw raised, and about to speak when the sound of feathers came from above and the familiar face of Mzingo landed between the two with a snap. “Boys,” he said with a slow drawl, and glanced over to the teen, “your Royal Highness,” he looked close to grimacing.

Jadili took a slow step closer to his brother who gapped and head shot up, “Royal?”

The Meerkat snorted and scowled at the cubs before glancing to the buzzard, “these two your charges?” At the reluctant nod they shook their head, “typical, should’ve expected that a hyena would be the same with a title.”

“You,” Jaribu started again with a growl, “you dare-“

“Boys,” Mzingo snapped and the cub turned to him with a scowl, “Please return to Mbala territory-“

“This is Mbala!”

“Uh actually Jaribu,” Jadili rubbed his paw on his upper arm, “this isn’t Mbala.” He chuckled nervously.

Jaribu blinked and his head snapped around to stare at Jadili, “w-what?”

The Meerkat cleared their throat and raised their head up, “Allow me to introduce myself,” they stood up, and raised up as high as their little body could, “The Heir Apparent of the Komboli Kingdom,” they paused for only a second, “Prince Tisa.”

“Prince… Tisa…” Jaribu blinked, and took a step back, bumping into Jadili. “You’re a… Meerkat.”

“Something wrong with that?” They raised a brow, “oh I guess you big brutes don’t expect us little guys to be anything? Huh?”

“What no!” Jaribu shook his head, “that wasn’t-!”

“Oh but you were fine with snarling and snapping before you found out!” Prince Tisa snapped, and turned to the Buzzard, crossing their arms, “get your boys out of here! And make sure your ‘Queen’ knows that they’ve fallen right below the Baobab tree!”

“But I didn’t even do anything,” Jadili muttered.

“I suppose I can,” Mzingo huffed, and waved a wing at the hyena cubs, “come now, boys, it’s time to go home.”

Meerkat Kingdom time. Which fun fact Komboli is from the old concepts.

Back when Timon was with Tesma and had many and many children. And they were Rangers that were gonna beat Simba up. Fun time.

But I won’t pass up on a name, and I immediately went “yes Kingdom” especially when we got Princess Tatiana, so this is her Kingdom. Is she Queen now? Maybe.

Which yes means that Timon was originally in this Kingdom as well. Before he was… pseudo exiled/left.

Which with TLK 1/2 I figured it was close enough to the Outlands for Shenzi and co to terrorize the colony. So they’re neighbors.

Which how did a meerkat colony become the respected Royals of the area? I have no idea. Maybe wisdom or luck.

We’ll see Prince Tisa again, also they’re the Grandchild of Tatiana. And her heir’s ninth kid. How did the ninth kid become heir? Well I’m excited to share that.

Actually tbh I really wanted to make a meerkat comic focusing on Duke maybe and showing off the world building of Meerkat kingdoms I’ve done. But not sure how well a Meerkat comic would go over.

Background is a splice of three separate backgrounds in TLG (forgive me, I wanted this out quickly, but also wanted it to still look good).
