Whoa, that's amazing! Tell me, exactly how did you do the lightning coming from its wings and tail plumage?

Thanks! Basically, made some sharp, jagged lines. Gave them some glow from where they emerge, to make it look like it's really coming from Zapdos. Then added some purple (only because it suited the colour scheme more) glow on a layer behind the lightning.
Be sure to check out some lightning references, and spark references. (:

Thanks! Oh you know, artistic freedoms and all. It's probably hard to tell, but they're slightly longer feathers resembling wires. Just wanted to go for a little extra oomph without changing his look too much
