Description
Well, as I put up the DevID with me draping on it, here is what I was working on - the top, my drape (not done at the time I snapped pictures, however) and the bottom, the garment it was referenced off of.It is a Victorian natural-form bustle dress c.1880 or so, and is rather frumpy looking (all because of the trim, man, cuz I look kick-ass in the mock up!) but I really wanted to do this, for the past ... 3 years, I think?
So, obviously, I spazzed out about not only getting to do it (I think we were the last class that would get to do this project) but also for getting to drape it in my own size!
I'll get pictures of myself with the (slightly butchered in the fitting) mock up, and then eventually, I do have plans on making this for myself... possibly for my graduation party, so I don't have to answer the question "so what did you go to school for again?" from my whole family
I'll just scare them! Mwahahaha!
If anyone would like, I can scan in my notes from the garment, and get them to you, along with my whole collection of higher-res images, although they're not really useful, as I couldn't get a picture of the dress on a form (none it would fit on!) if you want to undertake reproducing it...I doubt it, but I thought I'd put the offer out there!
I think I've found a new favorite time in history

I would love a copy of your notes and photos. I have also fallan in love with the cuirass bustle since my costume history class. I am in a theatre university program we get to design peices but dont get the opportunity to realize them (learn pattern making or drapping)... something I then pursued somewhat on my own but been mostly working inthe victorian Era

I was wondering..What is the point of the white fabric on the dress form? I have seen that on the television show "Project Runway" as well. Are those just pieces that you use to know where things go, or do they serve a greater purpose?

That is the actual pattern being made out of muslin - you don't just make patterns on paper, most of the time (especially for something like this), you drape the pattern using pieces of muslin fabric (or something of a similar consistence to your final fabric) and then transfer those to paper to create a patter - it's one way to get patterns that is a more visual (although definitely more complex/difficult sometimes) way of doing things

OH MAI!! That looks like a real pain in the ass!
Hehe, I might be moving up to doing pattern drafting from scratch soon, especially with my Ever After wedding dress that I can't seem to find a good base bodice pattern for.
You seriously have such a talent to do this stuff on more than a daily basis.......
....and the patience of Job, lol.

It definitely was a pain in the butt, but really worth it!
Pattern drafting (like, on paper) is still easier for me, and I dunno why - I think I'm better at visualizing it
Can I help at all with a pattern? I wouldn't mind doing it!

Yes, I agree.
Sure looks like it, and when you're good at that stuff, you can practically do anything!
Oh, do you mean you would help me out drafting a few patterns for my dress? If so, that would be such a awesome help! Lemme know and I'll link ya up!

I definitely think I could help with the pattern for you - you'd have to mock it up and fit it, and possibly alter it if necessary, but I wouldn't mind

That would help me out so much, Sam, thank you! When Mike and I get back from Cali, I'll bring the supplies with me. I'll get together some refs later tonight and try and get them to ya, if I don't forget, lol.

Ya know, I should print off my Amazon.com wishlist - that should give them a good idea of what I do! And, a hint on what to buy me
I can't wait to get to work on it, but with Acen this weekend, and a funeral to go to, and I even have to wait for the instructor to finish grading the pattern... *sigh* I wanna work on something!

Well I'ts a course for Fashion and Textiles so we cover alot of stuff from wall hangings to garments. But next year we can choose to do anything we want for our final collections ^^ But I loooove the Victorian fashions, mainly because of the corsets lol but I love how extravagent some of the dresses were. I don't like research very much, unless it's something I really want to do lol.

Oh! How cool!
Are you in school for fashion or costuming?
Yeah, historic stuff is a lot of fun (tedious, and really a lot more research than making if you have friends as anal as mine can be!)

It's so pretty... I absolutely love it, amazingly.
I'm going to have lots of awkward pictures, with me in a Victorian outfit, and my Uncle's stuck in the 80's with the mullet...
