Description
Well, I have this huge list of tutorials I want to make, and this was the first one a whim took me to strike off my list.Yes, it is wordy.
Yes, it requires you to do math.
Fair warning. (sorry, I be angsty about some people sometimes)
This is for making a skirt out of a full circle (or just about). These skirts are wonderful - they're very easy to do once you're used to them, and they're fast and very fun to wear. If you do it where you make it longer, they're so much fun to twirl around in.
Within this tutorial is how to sew it together, how to figure out the inner circle (this was my bit o' math voodoo in school), the length, and most importantly, yardage estimates.
I hope I covered just about everything you could need to know - I'll hopefully have a supplement to this in a few days about how to take this, and use it to create pleated skirts for those of us who can't wear traditional one's - our hips are too large! Circles make a wonderful way of doing that, combining the fullness you usually want in a skirt with the pleated look that most uniforms require.
Other useful tutorials that work well with this:

You most definitely can! If you need to add a tulle ruffle to help give it more poof, I have a tutorial for that, too - just add that to the bottom of a circle skirt!

My 11 y.o. daughter has been looking for a circle skirt pattern for a few months now. Your tutorial was simple enough for her to understand and finish. Her skirt turned out great. Thank you!

This is so great! I am totally going to do this, but what type of fabric did you use? Just a jersey knit? Or was it more of a spandex-y blend?

Erm... About the waistband, after folding it in half are you supposed to sew the fabric into the fold of the waist band or sew the folded waistband entirely on the inside or outside of the fabric's waistline?

ok i love this tutorial i havnt tried it out but so far i can understand it an math is one of my favs suprisingly lol my only question is the pic of the purple skirt did u put ruffles in the purple part or jus make ruffles under it =/ sry if its a stupid question

Not a stupid question at all, and I'm happy it makes sense so far!! Let me know how it goes if you do make it :3
For the purple one, I actually just attached ruffles to the very bottom of the skirt - I have a tutorial (video one) on how to do ruffles without going bonkers, too, if that would help You could always make it a second skirt underneath (I think I have one for making petticoats, too, which is pretty much all that would be) and just have it be a little longer so you can see it (or shorter, if you dun wanna see the ruffles)

Hi,this has very little to do with your tutorial-though it is lovely-but with one of the cosplay pics shown at the end there. I see in one of them you're a character who is adorned with extremely large bells-how exactly did you accomplish this?

I'm going to pick your brains
I hope I'm not too much of an inconvenience.
I'm making a 50's style wedding dress for a friend from cotton sateen. She will be wearing a petticoat. Would you recommend using one circle? Or two? I want it to be full...so I'm thinking two.. but seeing as you've made more circle skirts than I have....

This was so useful, amagad!
I'm making a full circle skirt to go over a 170" hoop skirt, any help? I wouldn't have a clue how much fabric I'd need, or how long it should be to go all the way over and cover the hoop skirt... D:
I tried googling, but there's kinda nothing, but that's also where I found this. Lol.
Any help would be sooo greatly appreciated!

Awesome tutorial! I'm still fighting with the math, and how to get enough pieces for a full circle out of only 3 yards. But I'll be attempting to sew a cirlce skirt pretty soon.
Just a question: How do I put in the waistband? Is it the same method as with bias tape?

Aaaaah this worked greaatttt
I made a couple adjustments because of my big bootay (and because I wanted a fuller skirt), but I feel so darn proud of myself for actually knuckling down and making this skirt after buying the fabric for it, like, two years ago, when I first saw this tutorial.
You're an inspiration!
