Description
Here is the second of three tutorials I took pictures for a few days ago at school, for putting on and wearing wigs. This one is about how to put on a wigcap (after your hair has been pincurled). For some reason, it seems longer than it should be - this is an insanely simple process, that after a few tries, turns out to take less than three minutes to do, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible with pictures and descriptions, so it makes sense.
For the pins, I have found these via Sally Beauty & Supply:
Smaller hair pins - [link]
Larger hair pins - [link] (you do not use these for putting on a wig cap - these are for the actual wig itself, but I wanted to include the link for ease of ordering!)
Unless you're wearing an extremely light colored wig, always get black pins (bobbi pins and hair pins) because they won't reflect light - they just look like the roots of hair.
Again, a thank you goes out to ~MedeaHiasobi for helping me with this (it's her hands with blue fingernails you see in the pictures

You can get them at most Sally's - I'd call and ask. Sometimes, even, WalGreens carries them (think "do-rag" ~ I think that's how you spell it...) works as well

Not a problem! I'm not sure how well they'll print, since they weren't paged or anything, but if you can get your printer to cooperate, that's cool by me
*random plug* I gave permission for the lady who created Costume Maker Magazine ~costume-maker to publish them (reformatted) in the first issue of it, so if you'd like, you can visit ~costume-maker to find out how to get a copy of the magazine, if you'd like

OMG! I'm so sorry! I didn't see this before, and it's probably wayyyyyy late to respond
I usually buy them from Sally's Beauty and Supply, but only some locations have them, oddly enough, so I'd call and ask~
Sorry again

huh - I never knew these were called wig pins.. I've used them for years to pin my hair into a coil or a twist (its too long and thick for bobbypins, at least when I let it grow out)
nice to learn a new use for them
great tutorials by the way!

((sorry if this is a separate/double post))
Yeah - my aunt had a ton of these, and I never realized they were used for something else. i actually love them instead of bobby pins ~ it's great how much hair they hold!!

they are great and a lot more versatile and if you have beads with large holes - you can string them onto the pins, before securing your hear, and you'll have pretty beads in your hair

Yeah, I know the feeling! I hate the one's at the nape of my neck, too, but those are harder to get under the cap *sigh*

Yeah, I know. I didn't know a thing about this until my makeup class last year~ we were lucky enough to get a wigmaster from Chicago in to teach us about styling, ventilating, and wearing wigs. He's like one of a dozen wigmasters in the darn country!~ He's awesome!!

hmm great tutorial..
but I got in mind how it is for people who have very short hair? the pins will not have any thing to rest in. For the wigcap this may be enough but for a havy wig secured on that wigcap?

taeliac In reply to BlackTowerOfTime [2006-12-30 22:22:05 +0000 UTC]
^___^;;
I need to get someone with short hair (I'm seeing my friend tomorrow, hopefully I can steal him!) to get pictures of how you put it on. If you have short hair, you use toupe clips (like these -- [link] although I've never boughten from the site, it's just an example) where you'd have pincurls (center front, over the ears, and in the back) and pin the wigcap into those~
