Description I made a tutorial of a plush pillow that I just made for my Aunt Laurie, who, if you've followed me on Facebook or Twitter know that I've been rather anxious about her. They found out she had a brain tumor on Monday, and operated on her Tuesday - she's doing okay, but still having speech and motor problems, and, well, since it's such a huge surgery, I'm still rather nervous.

So, to cheer her up, I made her this cute kitty pillow. Laurie loves bright and cheery things, and most especially kitties!

A few months ago I made her this apron, if that gives you an idea of her personality:

I thought I'd do something fun for her this time, too, and have it be rather sentimental as well - on the back, there are the names of all of our kitties (well, hers, mine, and my Grandparents') hand embroidered.

And, I discovered I really dislike doing hand embroidery. My fingers hurt. But it's all for a good cause!

I'll take some better pictures of it tomorrow in the daylight and submit it separately as a deviation, but for now, I hope this pseudo-tutorial is helpful for you!

-----

I do not go over each and every stitch I used to do this, either hand sewing, embroidery, or machine stitching. You're on your own, there, but dun worry, this is definitely on the "easy" end of things!

I do not provide a pattern - I show you what mine looked like, but you're going to have to do it on your own unless you beg and kiss up real-nice-like, and then maybe I'll put a couple up for different critters. Until then, you're on your own.

Yes, I know that this is a way n00b style plush. This is the second one I've ever made (this one being my first ) so cut me some slack, k?

As per the usual, please do not edit, post, or modify this tutorial and claim it as your own. I make these cuz I like sharing what I do and how I do it, not to make you look good by stealing them and trying to convince the world you're awesome.

If you make anything with this tutorial, please please please send me a link! I love to see stuff people make with my tutorials!

And, by the way, did you know that these other tutorials I've made may come in rather handy with this one, too, if you're looking for ideas on how to decorate your kitty?

And thank you to my awesome husband ~kellin for taking most of the pictures for this, and generally helping me out and keeping me company while making this!

Ooh! That would be awesome Four dogs, though! How do you keep them entertained?! I could barely handle my Grandparent's one dog (although it is rather hyper and crazy, so maybe it's just him )

And, she's supposed to come home this coming Wednesday, so I'm very happy about that!

Haha, It gets pretty crazy at times. One dog acts like she's a person and has to sleep in my parents bed XD They have a good time aggrivating each other though. Wayyy different personalities.

And thats nice to know about your aunt

She did absolutely love it - she's going to be in the hospital for a few more weeks, but she says she can't fall asleep without snuggling it, now

taeliac In reply to Vashtastic [2010-04-02 17:31:21 +0000 UTC]

You should! It's really easy to do (and easy to modify the pattern into just about anything else) and fun

She's doing better - she made it through the surgery and is re-learning how to use her left hand, but it's going good

So cute! I love it
I would make it for sure, if I had the money to buy the fleece and had a sewing machine XD As soon as I can, I'm gonna make one!
Great tutorial!

taeliac In reply to anubis-pumpkinqueen [2010-03-27 16:25:31 +0000 UTC]

If you wanna fight with it, you can definitely hand sew fleece, but it may make your hands hurt (I was just thinking of that this morning, how sore my hands still are from doing the embroidery )

But, my hubby just pointed something fun out - you could totally make little one's of these out of felt for the main parts, and scrap fabrics for the rest

anubis-pumpkinqueen In reply to taeliac [2010-03-27 17:20:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind hand-sewing, I'm rather used to it In fact, I like embroidering ^^
You're right, I could make litlle ones All I have to do is get the fabrics. Thanks!
Have a nice day sweetie

Ooh! That is awesome - do you have a pic of it in your gallery? (ish nosy)

I kind of just guessed while I was going, so I don't know if it's the best way to make a plush, but I hope it makes sense!

((I haven't gotten to open the club back up, but I have a ton of tutorials people have put on DeviantArt collected and categorized over at #FabricsAnonymous - [link] ))

That's really cute! Hmm, maybe I should make my mom one for her birthday....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

taeliac In reply to wandering-dreamer [2010-03-27 16:30:46 +0000 UTC]

That would be awesome, and it's a rather affordable project (I think, for the tapestry needles, embroidery floss pack of like 30 different colors, and the fleece, it was under $20 total if you catch the fleece on sale!) and you can be really unique with it, too

Someone suggested Mother's Day, which is now what I'm thinking I'm gonna do for her, but I need to figure out a different pattern/critter, because my mother has seen this one already

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wandering-dreamer In reply to taeliac [2010-03-27 19:34:42 +0000 UTC]

I'd totally forgotten about Mother's Day actually so this would work awesome for it (plus I can finally use the embroidery floss I found in the free bin at my local library!). And I can see how this would be really easy to adapt into a ton of other patterns and still be simple to make.

I'm happy you think so!

The stitched writing nearly killed me, I'm not gonna lie (I'm having typing problems still today because my hand still hurts) but it's completely worth it!

And, thank you so very, very much! I hope she's able to come home next week, I've missed seeing her on weekends (we live very close to each other, so we see each other a lot) and her being so happy and cheerful~
