Description This has been a long time coming, but it's finally here.  I'm actually satisfied with my custom X-Wing fighter at last!  After getting the recent X-Wing set, I had some inspiration for how to make my old custom one better.  You can see the old one here: fav.me/d1ye79p and the older one here: fav.me/d1ye0o3

I should note that the reason it says Version 4 when I only have two before it is that I did a minor modification that I never posted.  All it was was making the blasters look like they do now.

So, I'll go over a few of the changes I made this time around, and there were quite a few..  The first thing I did was to make the red stripe on the nose into more of a stripe, and more like what you see in the movies.  I made a few modifications around the cockpit, but then I looked at the back section, and decided that, heck with it, the whole thing needs to be redone.  So I started from the ground up, making the first new addition: rear landing gear!  You can sort of see them in this pic, and I'd like to do a little more work on them because they're kinda rough right now.  But they work.
Next, I got to the wings, and made a number of changes.  I moved the engines forward one stud, because they should be like that.  I changed the main plates of the wing a bit, allowing the bottom of the engines to be on the same level as the wing, as it should be.  I added floodlights, because X-Wings have those.  I added detail and support to the thrusters at the back.  And finally I made a mounting for the blasters that worked better.  Repeat x4.
After that, it was just a matter of building up the back end.  All the ones before this had had really terrible and simple back ends, so I built it up with some large bricks, made the back look good, and then greebled all over the top.
Also, I made it wide enough for R2 or R4 to sit properly.  So in your face, Lego designers.  Actually no, not in your face.  Hire me.  Now.  I've seen the 2014 SW sets; your future depends on hiring me right now.

I made a couple of changes since taking the picture, too.  I turned the hinges at the front of the nose around so the tan part was more hidden and the white part showing.  I also swapped two of the blasters, to put one of the ones with the dark red bit on the upper wings.  Lastly, I changed the wing marking to make it number One instead of Two.

Here's the model with the wings closed: fav.me/d6xxfh1
