Description
One of my self projects of doing character designs. Project Chess.Character: White Pawn
Concept: simple
The white pawn has armor that is simple enough for mass production, while providing decent protection.
When they are promoted, they are given magical equipment that enhances abilities based on the class they promote to.
The armor of the pawns draw inspiration from Diablo 3.
edit: played with the contrast. and it looks somewhat better? definitely look more metallic to me. what do you think?

This makes me think about the original Star Wars Battlefront and Lotr Conquest with the Pawn promotions being the playable classes and the True Rooks, Knights, Bishops, Queens, and Kings being the Heroes/Villains, and the Pawns being the grunts you would fight in Single-Player Mode.
Also, do you mind if I use this as a reference for my own Chess Project?

Thanks and also, when I first saw these, I imagined that if this was a game, for both black and white factions, there would be 2 types/variants of the promoted pawns, an Offensive and a Defensive type. For example, for the white Knight Promotion Pawn this would be the choices:
β’Offensive: A heavily armored knight on horseback, armed with either a long sword or heavy lance for close range, throwing axes or javelins for long range, and a galloping charge attack as the special attack.
β’Defensive: Your version of the W.K.P.(White Knight Promotion) Pawn, but with a chose between the double ended spear, only now it's the same size as the Pawn, or duel wielding scimitars for close range, kunai/shuriken combo or a pair of light, repeating crossbows for long range, and for the special attack, either a spinning whirlwind attack or a multi-target flash step attack, where the Pawn teleports as a streak between a maximum of 10 enemies.
Also, in the game, only two players can play the same special piece (Rook, Knight, Bishop), while one player play the Queen, the other plays the King, and eight others play as the Promoted Pawns, so their would be a total of 16 player controlled characters in game.
So, what do you think? Interesting idea?

Hi, sorry for the late reply.Β
It really depends on the type of game that they appear on. I like the idea of promoting into different jobs, like most mobile games these days. But it depends on how many characters that are under your control. If you are controlling a bunch of characters at once then you don't want to over complicate stuff. If you can explain a bit more on what type of game it is, then I can give a bit more of what I think.

Oh, what I meant was that there would be 32 players, 16 for each faction, black and white, with 8 players playing the specials pieces, 2 rooks, 2 Knights, 2 bishops, 1 queen, 1 King, and the 8 other players playing the Promoted Pawns. The game would be a mixture of a strategy game like Total War and a class based team game like Team Fortress 2. The 2 teams would have 5 minutes to look over the area of the map they're playing on and form a battle plan to win, which can be different depending on the game mode. The Promoted Pawns are given a unit (25-100 Pawns) of Pawns, either regular Pawns(the one you made), Archers, Calvary, Pikemen, Artillery, Heavies, or Mages (all NPCs), while the S.P.s (Special Pieces) act as generals for the army, offering buffs to the groups they follow around or encounter on their missions. I hope this clears things up a bit, if not, just me some more questions.

I can see what you are going at. The biggest problem for the concept is the number of players needed.Β
32 players with 16 on each team. Thats a lot of people. unless a lot of people are playing this game, you can't really get 32 people in the same match/same time in order to start the game. Let's say there's one person short, this game will never start unless you put bots. If you look at team games now, it's usually 5 vs 5. Much easier to get 10 people than 32 people in a match. There's also the problem of communication in a team.Β
As for the promoted pawns having the option of offensive and defensive, for other type of games it is a nice touch, for this game, the added complexity will drive people off. and imagine the amount of characters the character designer needed to do.
This game is ambitious if you ask me. Try simplify it a bit and it would be good.

And the types/variants of the Promotions are meant to be subclass for the Promoted Pawns' classes

nice!!
some crits: a bit weird how the floor fades into the bg like that @.@ especially because the tiles are still big so it can't be that far behind him.. also maybe shd have texture on the metal parts, or maybe the color is too light? not sure~~
good job on armor design XD I can't do that T^T

i think the color maybe too light, and too less contrast?
MMOs has some good armor designs. have a look at those.
