Description This is the pattern for [link]

This is an excellent pattern for a beginner, because it uses only whole crosses, except in the needle.

I used 2 strands of black to outline Fella.
I used 1 strand of black to outline the needle and DA Stitches.
I used 4 strands of black for the DA logo on Fella's belly.
I use 2 strands of 796 to outline the blue thread.
I filled the needle with half crosses (lower right to upper left) of DMC 318.

I will post a few scrap that will allow some variations to the above pattern, eventually.

The pattern was drawn originally on 10x10 graph paper and then entered square by square into PC Stitch. The consumer version of PC Stitch (Spanish accent, "a-which I have") does not support .jpg exports. In order to get the .jpg file you see above, I viewed my PCStitch pattern at 400 percent, printed the screen multiple times, pasted the screen prints into Paint Shop Pro 8, and manually manipulated the multiple images into one final copy. Say that 3 times fast .

If you would like the original PC Stitch pattern file, note me.

If you stitch him, please post him so I can see, and link back to the pattern, so others may find it.

This pattern is not to be kitted or sold. It may be distributed freely by anyone, as long as the rules of are followed.

Enjoy him!

This is really neat! Do you have to buy the special material with the set grid?

Hi!

I think your asking about the fabric that is used for specifically for cross stitch. If so, it is called Aida, and no, you don't have to use it. Cross stitch can be done on just about any fabric, but it is most commonly stitched on either Aida, or some sort of evenly woven cloth (called evenweave) such as linen. What is important is to be able to make regular square x's, which is what cross stitch basically is. Most beginner stitchers start with Aida, because it is easier to stitch. All the little boxes in the fabric help a stitcher see exactly where the x's are supposed to wind up.

My version of Hampster Cupcake is stitched on Ice Blue 28 count Laguna linen. But, I stitched over 2 threads, which means there are only 14 stitches per linear inch. Most cross stitch is done at either 14 or 18 stitches per inch, but I have seen some pieces that were over 40 stitches per inch. OMG that is tiny.

I hope that helps you. If you have more questions, let me know.

This pattern is free for anyone to use. I used the Official Fella File [link] , which is public domain for deviants, as the basis for the pattern. That file, too, is free for any deviant to use any way he or she pleases.

Stitch away!

Okay it's been a REALLY long time since I've cross-stiched, but I have two questions:

One--are the color "variations" simply different colors of black and white? Meaning, different skein shades of b&w?

Two-- the "." items, to me, recall french knots. Do you intend for the dots to be french knots, or is that simply a color change to a different skein of thread?

(The second question is probably really dumb--they probably *are* french knots--but I wanted to make sure...)

TalyrasMirror In reply to Ranea [2008-02-11 04:46:01 +0000 UTC]

It has been a while, hasn't it?

Here is a link to one of the major stitching houses, it will remind you about the method of making the little x's that are the basis for cross stitch. [link]

What I have posted in DA Stitches is simply a pattern. Each of the boxes represents a single cross stitch, or x. Each x is made of a different color. The symbols in the grid each represent a color.
The "." is the lightest of the grays, for which I use a specific color of thread, made by the DMC Floss company, #415. Each of the other symbols represents a different gray. If you make 1 x on your fabric, in the correct color, for each box in the pattern grid, when you are done, the x's will make the picture shown in my Deviation [link] .

If you still need some more help, I can surf for better instructions.

Let me know.

I hope you have fun stitching him! Just don't get frustrated if you make mistakes, and have to rip out or redo stuff. I learned many years ago that everyone makes mistakes, even the people you see at needlework shows.

There is even a joke about it. When you make an error it is said that the Frog has come to visit you, and you have to rip-it, rip-it, rip-it.

I have another free pattern I did several years ago, that I will eventually post. It is a little frog in a "no" sign made of red thread and a needle. The caption at the bottom says "No Frogs".

Hey, everyone should learn to sew. You may never do anything with it, but if you can sew a button back on, you may save a friends wedding! Who knows?

I just hope you have fun "sewing" my pattern.

I think I might put it on a pillow! I made lots of pillows in sewing... they were extra credit... I needed lots of it towards the end.need a pillow? I have probably about 50.... they're free!
