HOLY CRAP. THIS TOOK ME ABOUT 4 OR MORE HOURS TO DO O_O PLEASE FULL-VIEW BECAUSE THE PREVIEW IMAGE SUCKS.Yes, I've spent my entire day on.... my very first Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne fanart. Was it worth it? HECK YES. After reading the first three books... I totally love this series XD And this pairing >3 JeannexSinbad, yaay. I'm veryyyy happy with the turnout, cuz most of my pics have recently... not been turning out the way I want (been rushing, I think). It took so long to figure out how I was going to position them... and really long during coloring cuz I wanted it to look clean. But yeah... took forever, and when the pic's small, Jeanne's head looks uber squished DX Most fun part was the hair and eyes
I'll probably do more KKJ fanart sometime... cuz Arina's characters are all just awesome *-*

Very nice and colorful! The only problem I have is that Jeanne's face looks a bit flat with the way she's facing and all. It doesn't really show as much depth as it should. But otherwise, it's really awesome. You're actually good at digital BG's while I suck at them, which is a plus. ^^

Wow, it looks so nice! The colours really jumped out at me! The hair is really nice, but what really jumps out at me is Jeanne's pendant. Also Sinbad's eyes, because they=love.
Have you tried playing with layers? I love the roses and the airbrushed background, but it covers parts of the character a bit in places which can detract from the floaty feel. My advice is to do the airbrushing on a separate layer but treat is as though you were doing it on the same layer as the characters (so, go around their shapes and stuff). When you're doing, put the airbrush layer to "exclusion" which makes it easier to see if any parts of the airbrush have covered the picture. Erase with your eraser really fluffy-ish (no hardness) and probably tone the opacity down, too, so that when erasing, the edges will keep the floaty feel. When you're done easing, set the layer back to "normal."
Alternatively, you could do a layer of your background colour, then duplicate your base picture and drag it to the top of your layers, set it to exclusion (again to see where you've erased, since if you've erased it, it won't show the exclusion anymore), the erase everything but the characters themselves. When only the characters are left, make a new layer and fill it with white. Go back to the duplicated character layer and use the magic wand tool on the erased parts, then invert it so it has selected the characters. Copy them, then paste them as a new selection on your white layer. Then expand the selection by a few pixels, then feather it so it has the floaty feel (that's how I get outlines around my characters, such as the Lain-Genie).

Yeah, layers can be evil. I learned to maipulate mine when I got into icon-making. The only thing I can really say is to play around with them, because guidebooks I found didn't help much. I suppose you could serch the 'net for some tutorials, though. They can be helpful, too.
