Description Fan mew request from . Hm. It seems my fan mew drawings are getting worse and worse ;_; I think I'm beginning to get an artist's block on them...
I think the coloring turned out okay though. Aside from the fact the skin color was dying...

Thanks! Actually, the description said she was supposed to be very similar to Pudding, so I tried to give her a Pudding-like face ^^

Trying really "out-there" poses that aren't commonly used might help a bit with your artist's block. You do mostly strraightforward poses, which isn't bad at all. When others want to do FA, they have great ref from you, but if you know what someone looks like exactly, then it's safe to be more adventurous.

I really like this, though. Her eyes are so pretty!

I don't think it's getting worse...
But perhaps you could try drawing other characters than Mews... but still in anime style ^_^ Maybe it could help!
It's good anyway!

What are you getting artist block on? If its clothing or something, one day just go to the mall and walk through the clothing stores. The Icing is one of the best ones for me. And just sketch down ideas that come to your head as your walking around seeing people and stuff. I dunno if that will help, it helps me sometimes. Keep up the great work though!

Tamao is a skilled artist, but you must understand that she is known for her anime art. She has her own style, and it is naturally shoujo-ish. She has also shown some work in different styles that are more realistic, but she has mainly one style and I believe she intends to stick with it, or at least, until she improves on it to the point where it has evolved. Also, what must be understood is that she put "Anime Artist" as her status for a reason. She draws anime. Duh.

However, I do agree that Tamao can begin to draw in different perspectives.

What I am saying is that Tamao should not feel a need to change her style because someone else likes something different. If you want to see a different style, please go look at another deviant's work. And she can't go on hiatus. She's making a comic.

Oh. Sorry. I like the hair! Beautiful colors, and her outfit looks crisp and fresh. I could tell what kind of fabric it's made of, which is good, since it doesn't look like your generic cotton, but something stiffer that doesn't wrinkle or get erratic creases.. okay, I'm kind of off the topic..

Purty. ^^

I'm not suggesting that she should draw realistic style for my own pleasure (how did this come up?), but for her own possible benefit. While it may be alright for her to draw in manga style for hers and everyone else's entertainment, she can't be always drawing it if she's trying to take a job as a professional manga artist. While I have been knowing that there are American manga artists who had their works published. But, I'm sure that they have had to take the challenge of making lifelike drawings.

There will be times that you cannot get anywhere in the art industry just become you can draw cartoons. I've slowly come to realize this, as I have used to draw in manga style, but have gotten rid of them because I no longer wish to keep them in the future. Yet, there's still a lot of time before she will probably to be prepared for something of the sort, so she can continue to still please anime fans.

I don't mean any disrespect and am not trying to be aggressive. But this is also her prerequisite, and as you mentioned, she still has time to learn. She doesn't even take art lessons at school or privately. Though she plans to become serious for the future, now is just not her time. And when she does begin her education, I'm sure she'll be wonderful at whatever she pursues in this field.

I am not going to argue with you about this. I really don't like conflicts, but I gotta stick up for my friends when they feel uncomfortable about something.

You have to understand that I''ve never had a formal art lesson in my life, other than school. See my latest journal for details.
I'm finally going to take Art in my highschool next year, as I have finished PE. I'm sure my art teacher will be quite helpful.

Well, I won't disrespect you on behalf on this repetition and review your latest production. But, on the other hand, I will say this: maybe you need to go on hiatus on making anime drawings. Try making your fancharacters more realistic. Human like eyes, nostrils added onto the nose and details on the lips.

Tamao In reply to Smashkid [2006-01-28 04:31:31 +0000 UTC]

I don't want to stop drawing anime. It's something I love, and I could never stop. My biggest dream is to be a manga artist, and I don't ever want to give up that goal. Realistic style anime isn't really for me. I only use it to draw some Final Fantasy characters. We all like to draw different styles, and big eyes is something I like.

Smashkid In reply to Tamao [2006-01-28 06:47:06 +0000 UTC]

I used to enjoy drawing anime back during May-November 2005. I discontinued producing anime work because I realized that it was no longer something fitting for me. I always wanted to become an artist. Though, I now disapprove of its typically corny style, I have improved my art skills by drawing in it.
The only methods I now associate with are lifelike images and western comic-book/animation style.

But, on certain circumstances, you cannot always draw manga. If you do long to undertake a job as a American manga artist, it will be a necessity that you will have to produce realistic artwork, despite that it is something that you claim you're not good at achieving.

You are doing well in your goal, however, I do suggest that you take some of my advice and use it wisely.

Dude, I have a question. What if To-to drew in the Western style? Would you be telling her to make her eyes bigger and her noses smaller? If she already drew Western, would you be telling her to try out anime too?

Smashkid In reply to Smashkid [2006-01-28 03:30:30 +0000 UTC]

One more addition: Try drawing characters in different viewing perspectives. If you need assistance on that, you may require dolls like human-like exaggerations such as Barbie dolls. That'll provide your work with extra innovation and creativity.
