Yeah... Darkrais are such a mystery... We never know if they are good or bad...
In Diamond & Pearl, a Darkrai made a little boy fall in eternal sleep, in Black & White, he killed a girl with just nightmares, and in Mystery Dungeon Sky, oh boy! he was the mastermind of everything bad that ever happened all allong! (Pretty much like Aizen from Bleach)
On the other hand, in PokΓ©mon Movie 10 The Rise Of Darkrai, he tried to stop Palkia and Dialga from fighting to prevent the destruction of the world, and in PokΓ©mon Ranger Shadow Of Almia, he came to help the protagonist to defeat the final boss.

is there more than one darkrai. Darkrai's can't breed so I'm just assuming it's the only one of its kind it's dex entry says "To protect itself, it afflicts those around it with nightmares. However, it means no harm." It also says that they chase trespassers out of there territory but there in a cityΒ Β

Well, the Darkrai in Pokemon Rangers: Shadow's of Almia isn't the same Darkrai from the movie. Then there's Tobius's Darkrai. And there is also the Darkrai from "Sleepless in Pre-Battle", where a Darkrai causes nightmares for everyone annually and is only stopped when Cresselia fights it off. Not only is it purposely harming people, they aren't anywhere near his territory.
In the end,Β while the official dex says something, the actual pokemon world doesn't live by it. You wouldn't believe how many dex entries are total garbage now in official pokemon games and shows. Whether it's size, personality, anything really. So, no one can really use dex entries to decide what a pokemon is like, since even the official stuff doesn't base their stuff on it anymore. It's sad, but true.
It's actually why I'm working on a pokemon story based entirely on the dex entries alone. I'll just say, the title "Pokemon Dark" is the only title that properly describes a world with pokemon based entirely on the dex entries.

I know that Darkrai wasn't aggresive at the beggining, but I think he's taking this fight too seriously. He need to learn when someone challenge him, and when someone take defensive stance out of fear.
