This tutorial is no longer relevant. Inkscape now has a swirl tool. Use that instead...

PROTIP
Simplify (Path-->Simplify or Ctrl+L) the swirl instead of removing useless nobes yourself.

This tut is really outdated. Inkscape now has a much improved bezier tool that lets you do this in second.

Has for tutorial I now put things on my personal site. Not much there yet but more should appear.

Try selecting the triangle before the path.

This is really aggravating me. I can't get the triangle to follow the line smoothly. Any help?

Typically that would be because you didn't create enough nodes. Try adding more. By default there will be only 3 nodes in a triangle. You need to add lots more. Check you are doing step 3 properly.
