There's always been speculation about Tintin's origins, apart from his first adventure in the USSR and his 2nd adventure in the Congo, we really don't know anything about Tintin, that also goes for his age too, though Herge once said that at the start of the series Tintin was 14 and aged up to about 17, so I like to think of Tintin as 17 years old

I can think up like a dozen theories about Tintin, this is just the one I generaly use in my fanfics

Tintin is born in a village in the Belgian countryside that at first was realativly unaffected by the Germen occupation of WW1, his dad is a career solider and his mom is an archeologist(she is also Hercule Poirot's little sister)

At age 2 or 3 his dad leaves to fight in the war, but is killed in battle, so with the Germen army moving towards their hometown, Tintin with his mom and Grampa on his dad's side(who's a scout master) flee to England like most other belgians, they move back at the end of the war

At age 6 Tintin escapes from drowning in a boat accident while vacationing in Eastern Europe, but his mom and grampa are unfourtanitly drowned, so Tintin is sent to an ophanage but he runs away after a week their and lives as a street urchian, traveling throuhout Western and Eastern Europe, and even lives for a time in London's Chinatown learning Kung Fu

At age 9 Tintin is adapted by a kind Irish aristacrat (who's a forgin diplomat in Belgium) after he saves his playboyish eldest son from drowning, he lives with that family going back and fourth from their estate in Belgium and the family estate in Ireland unitl after his 3rd adventure in America
