Description Let me just point out that I'm 'still alive'. Oops was that a Portal quote? heh. No, the Lorax fanart does not mean I'm finished with Portal. I've got quite a few unfinished things on my computer thanks to my work (I feel just as slow as Valve at making Half Life 3). Its been a nightmare for me. But hey! I'm still here!

Annnywaaay...This is my own personal 'what if' moments. So yeah, what if Onceler had listened to the Lorax? For starters he probably wouldn't of had a sad and lonely life. I know it's not to the original story but I wish he had a happier ending. In my version (so sorry Suess), his lame family disappears forever after he refuses to chop down more trees (why? you decide). leaving the forest be and everyone lived happily ever after! The end! Yaaay... I wish. Again...Sorry Lorax fans. Had to do it! XD

I like the idea you presented.  (Yes, it would have been great if he had just turn his mother down. And yes, he is a very likable character...so watching go downhill and then losing his life locked away is not nice at all)

And is nice to see a what if scenario were things turnout better.

((with the negative side of not having that figures that ruins all and with his own experience being a bad example ends up being the inspiration for the new generation on to doing the right thing and becoming a good example...In short he has to rise and fall to learn and pass that knowledge to others))

And the overall drawing is really great.

Very much appreciate your comment! It's quite nice getting positive feedback as I was quite worried for the opposite. Probably because of looking at the IMDB forum boards. I love how Dr Suess has something meaningful in his stories and thanks to The Lorax, I find myself tempted to buy a whole Dr Suess book collection. XD

No problem. Yes, IMDB users don't seem
to like the film...or at least a large portion of the audience doesn't.
. I love that about Dr Seuss too. His collection has so many great lessons, as you said, and some of them are great for kids, but seem to hit even more home for adults. Example: Butter Battle Book: kids: fights can only provoke more violence, until  both sides are crushed. For the adults is a great metaphor for the Cold War.
I am tempted to buy them too. I only have The Lorax and How the Grinch stole Christmas.

Is that Wheatley in your icon?

What doesn't help is my excitement for the future Suess movies coming up. Sure it'll be a while but it's been absolute ages since reading The Cat in The Hat (which is one of the CGI movie remakes coming up). My love of CGI animation has somehow grown thanks to movies as fun as this one. But that's the kind of geek I am.
Yeah, it's Wheatley. Many Portal fans try doing in humanizing and basing him on his actor Stephen Merchant.. Its a fun challenge and there are the occasional changes until I have a look I'm 100% happy with.

I share the excitement for those films with you. I believe that they changed it to another version of the Grinch(Illumination- 2017).

Who knows maybe with good luck Illumination and Blue Sky will make the feature film  equivalent of the  tv specials from the 50's to the 90's.

I am kinda of a geek too. So I get it. I sort of drool over the textures and ambient and city designs.

Cool! I knew it. Funny thing I have never play portal. I'm a fan of the fan interpretation.

I supposed it is. I'm more of a 2001 fan so I have try to make human HAL, SAL and HALman(which is by concept a real pain).. SO yes, I get how it is a challenge to get to something you are really  satisfied with.

Really? That's interesting! Makes me wonder what they'd do with it. The wait will be worth it.
I like Blue Sky's animation too but I must admit there have been the ones I wasn't overly keen on such as Reo, A Cloudy Chance of Meatballs and so on. I believe the animators have SO much potential in their talents after I watched Epic. The animation and character design was absolutely stunning! But as you were saying--50's to 90's? I wonder what that'll be..
I always admire the styles of artists in these animations that I also look out for the smallest things of their details in the movies.
Portal 2 is almost like playing a movie except you're in a way part of it. Literately. The characters in it are so lovable--good or bad or both.
Ahh you like Hal? I have a very good friend of mine who makes art of him but also humanized him too! We love humanizing the awesome characters! Check her art out: ryuki-chinto.deviantart.com/
I'm ashamed to say I haven't had the chance to watch 2001 yet. So much people love the movie yet I haven't seen it. :\ Ah well I will eventually I guess.

Yes, really.
I liked CWCOM, and the other didn't leave any impression. Yes, I agree. I haven't seen that one yet. Yes, their work is stunning.  Yes, and that if you don't count 1942 Horton hatches an egg from Merry Melodies. And is until 1989(not 90's) From  HHAE- or HTGSC(1966) to 1989 with TBBB.
Cool! I'll try to play it I bought the 2nd, but I can't find a place that sells the 1st one. Yes, I noticed that watching some players on Youtube.
Yes, do. I checked out. Her art is great. I like her design. And her GlaDOS is like Caroline.. I like that.
On the subject of watching 2001... is long, slow paced and it has an unconventional narrative, and it's also  a wonderful movie that needs to be watch several times to be understand.

my hEARt. ;-;

Yeah, I wish he'd had a happier ending too. I've watched the movie about twenty times so far and I still cry at the end of his story when everyone leaves him...all alone...It's not fair.

Beautiful picture!

That's exactly what I think every time I watch the movie. It's his mother who deserves to feel like nothing and to be alone but sadly that's just not how the story goes. It really sucks but I love it anyway. Recently getting this obsessed with character, what can I say? He deserves the love and fanart!

Yep, it's true.

Lol yeah but don't worry; the entire Lorax fandom is enamored with this guy, so you'll see plenty of him around. XD

I HAVE LOTS OF fanfics dedicated to the Lorax movie of Once-ler with OCs in each different stories and the same in the sequels even in truffula tales AND they got happy endings

Ah yes! Happy endings! We need more of those! I wouldn't mind having a read when I get the time. especially knowing it involves Once-ler!

DUDE! I so agree with ya on your theory! I mean if Once-ler didn't refuse to chop down the trees then everyone would have a happy ending adn he'd be mayor of Thneedville And he would respect nature

TangledMangle In reply to FairyGal11 [2014-03-15 22:53:09 +0000 UTC]

Usually its always my favorite characters who appear to have OK endings to their stories but simply not good enough. Another thing I had in mind was if he was aware that there was getting less and less of Truffula Trees, he could of started a gardening business which might even earned him more money as well as keeping at least some of the animals happy. Heh! Damn. Here I go again with my thinking!

aaawww what an amazing art! *0* I love your style but especially the concept! Oh, if only he'd listened to his heart... it would be much better for him (and of course for the forest and animals. Once-ler was always under the pressure of his mom, he was ready to do anything to try to get her appreciation. Poor guy, if only he had understood his family doesn't need him... And he had a lot of talents!
You have such an optimistic view to the story! ^^

Thank you very much! Your words are so kind! Something about drawing him and his classic Suess style is fun yet a challenge! The movie's story however is heart breaking. Suess fans may not like me saying this but although I loved the book, I adored this movie even more and the clever extras they've added towards it, extending the story.

I'm excited to see what Illumination animations can do next with The Grinch and The Cat in the Hat CGI remakes.

yinlin1994 In reply to TangledMangle [2014-03-16 10:11:02 +0000 UTC]

No problem! )) Your style looks realistic enough! It's close to the movie's style yet has some original details.

Well, I guess, usually people who did watch the 1972 cartoon says the remake wasn't good enough (as I have heard from some of them). It's not the regularity, though. However, for me it was in such order: I've read the book, watched the 2012 movie and then, after getting in the fandom, also watched the 1972 cartoon. And I can say I'm glad I watched the 2012 before because maybe I wouldn't like it that much as I like it now. Well, each cartoon has its own merits. I like that additional things in 2012, they make the story close to children and modern time. The movie is rather cute and funny, even though it has some touching moments. 1972 cartoon seems to me more serious, the message is clearer and the psychological moments are deeper (maybe it's because it focuses only on Once-ler and shows only his way).
So, you're right, extras have extended the story, and have given an additional meaning to the main message. It's not only about ecology and how one person can handle his guilt, it's also about friendship (the Lorax and Once-ler's line), what can person do for the love (Ted's line) and that new generation should correct mistakes of older generation (Once-ler and Ted's line). It just how it seems to me )))

oh, really? Are they're planning to do remakes on them?

TangledMangle In reply to yinlin1994 [2014-03-20 01:57:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's right! I read up a few things Dr Suess involved and apparently there would be a CGI remake of The Grinch first and then the Cat in The Hat by the same creators (Illumination Entertainment). Although I loved The Grinch, I don't think it needs a remake yet I wouldn't mind one either. I'd love to see Jim Carrey voice him. The Cat in The Hat? Yes. Definitely. I feel bad to say I cringed whenever I watched that movie. I feel it can be so much better but that's my opinion. For now all that's being done by Illumination Entertainment is a Minion movie, Despicable Me 3 and a "pets movie" so I don't expect to see these Suess movies for quite some time.

...and then the Once-ler opened a bakery instead, because he was muuuch better with pancakes than with knitting, and fed the Lorax 8 servings every day as a thank-you sign. The end :]
Jokes aside? Cool "what-if", love the little guardian and the way he managed to convince Beanpole.

Actually I love the idea of that! I can already picture the scene all over again where the Bar-ba-loots, humming fish, Swomee-swams and of course the Lorax have huge mounds. Absolutely adorable! Gosh! Don't give me ideas...its extremely tempting for me to draw that. Haha!
And biiig thank you! That's a lot coming from someone who's made incredible Lorax art! This is indeed my first try of drawing him (Lorax) and I thought he was quite a challenge to my surprise!

Fuuuzzzy beeeellies. Looots of'em.   Fat Lorax is a happy Lorax, and happy Lorax means happy forest. Worth a shot, am I right?

and I thought he was quite a challenge
But for the first time, his paws and moustache turned out surprisingly good. And the overall use of textures, pretty close to the movie (or concept arts, at least).
