When the dispute over an Ancerium refinery between former Mai Mai shareholders and the Republik Angkasa who nationalised it reached the boiling point, it was natural that it became a military conflict as each side races to control as much Ancerium as they can get before their top diplomats reached some sort of ceasefire, assuming if they could. However, RANGSI forces are woefully unprepared for the conflict as their Delvean garrison is mostly staffed by young conscripts and middle-aged reservists drawn from the local cities. They had not expected war to come at all, many simply thought they would serve their time and then return to a civilian life. Logistics did not forsee the same too; while the standard-issue M95 Field Uniform could insulate just enough heat to maintain survivable body temperatures, the proper winter clothing and gear needed to perform at optimal condition and comfort was only ready the next month or so. There was not enough body armor plates to equip the entire conscript force, consripts had to make do with no shoulder pauldrons and no kneedguards as these were instead given to reservists and elite formations. As such, the RANGSI conscripts mobilised to defend the Republik's Ancerium holdings were minimally equipped with basic torso body armor, had no time to repaint what armor and weapons they have to suit the snowy environments they were going to fight in and many were just fresh out from basic training, adding on to the list of their psychological inadequacies to perform in war.
