Description
Another brand new artwork of Lizardland. Normal-form Agamid, Skaro and Hotara are in the army school, still training to become great warriors.During the day-break from his forge, Hotara spent more than 130 pull-ups in the first wave until the heavy rain suddenly came during the dark afternoon, covering the entire jungle. Even though they are all wet, Skaro, counting successive pull-ups, strictly motivated like a coach to increase the potency and strength. And Hotara obeyed what his brother warned. Agamid, behind them holding his Staff of Nature Scales, was watching the great effort of his friend.
Characters, "Agamid", "Skaro" and "Hotara" Β©

Fair enough! But I guess you know now that many of us have a very strong passion for reptiles... if you know what I mean.
Maybe you will too, some day!

Since Cynrik beat me to the critique and said everything needed I will just ask you how many chin ups/pull (depending on the spacing of your arms) ups can you do since you made this picture so epic. This guy can do 130?

Move those hooves! I think I should start posting some videos of my own physical escapades. On a side note I am writing a drawing tutorial (not colouring), not for realism but coolness factor, mind checking it out when it is done?

This guy (also to the great warriors) is so strong. He has lot of strength to do his essentials like lifting up objects, pulling heavy carts, etc. :3

Well strength is not everything, one must also consider strength to weight ratio, nutrition and oxygen delivery via the circulatory system, in addition to an all essential respiratory system. The current world record for pull ups in one minute is 46 by Matthew Bogdanowicz with 433 in 30 minutes without stopping!

In my opinion, this picture is the best you ever did. At least, when it comes to your own characters, like Hotara or Skaro.
Over the past time, youβve had so many problems with anatomy, proportion, finding the fitting background, proper compostion, expression and a lot more.
Sure, even this picture can still be improved⦠but I am very (!) proud, that you HAVE improved so far.
Right now, the flaws are minorβ¦ and not recognizable anymore. You have followed your friendβs advises and proposals, and I really thank you for that. Iβm grateful and very proud and it should fill you with happiness that you CAN improve! ^^ Nobodyβs perfect and you know: by practising on art and by talking with other artists, you will improve.
In this picture you have done a great improvement on:
1) Anatomy (all greater flaws about the bodies are corrected)
2) Background (it now fits to the characters and works out well)
3) Colours (all colours work in harmony, because youβve chosen earth/nature tones)
4) Digital Effects (you have used them to SERVE you and not the other way around)
5) Light (light and shadow work realistic now)
About the effects:
In the past, you have let your digital media βovercomeβ your own art. Your digital skills are out of the questionβ¦ but your art looked like if you would hide behind your digital effects. Sure, effects are flashy and coolβ¦ but a βgoodβ drawing needs more than that!
And today, you have proved that you CAN do more!!!!
This is important:
Donβt be a slave to your mediaβ¦ USE THE MEDIA IN YOUR FAVOUR!!!
By doing an artwork like this, you have made a giant step and Iβm very happy about it.
This is a grand work and a good +fav!
I can't see that you have corrected the hands, though... but this should be some plan for the next time. After all, hands and expressions are really hard to draw! ^^
Well done, Kevin. You can be proud about this artwork β because it works and it looks believable!
Take care -
Patrick

This is a great comment, pitty one canΒ΄t fave comments I have read most of your comments on this artist that you have given and itΒ΄s fun to see, you are like an art teacher
Are you teaching others too? I can say, only by reading your comments IΒ΄m also learning things like Kevin does. IΒ΄m larning to see things, but mostly I see failures in my own art almost always and that makes me improve in the next picture I do. But sometimes IΒ΄m too lazy to fix problems in a picture and just post it here on dA anyway
Sorry for bothering you with this comment
I just wanted to say that itΒ΄s nice to see how much effort you put to get this artist to improve

Thanks a lot for the reply on my comment. You didn't bother me at all!
As a matter of fact, I am an art teacher at school! So, you can count on what I say usually has a base and some kind of experience.
I truely hope, that not only Kevin will learn from my comments... I'm also happy to hear, that it can help others. Yeah, I also teach other people but... usually, I'm just happy to give general advise. Most people show me some works and want some feedback - which I am happy to provide.
Thanks again and take care! There're many people you can ask for help, ya know?

Big thanks to you, and to many awesome artists in the world . I feel so, so happy to hear about my artwork that is improved more than before. :3
Gosh, I dunno how to say gladly. ^^ I might slightly throw up for this XP. because I am joyful to hear your comment...
You recall that I had gimps in the past time, now I have so much improvement in anatomy, effects, lights, color harmony, media, expression, composition. and background. Big hugs to you for appreciation and good advices which I should consider.
Yes, I really do consider your recommendations and many friends' advices. This is so helpful to let me improved in next time ^ ^. Now, I can explore new ideas for incoming artwork.
I'm proud of my grand artwork, and of being a good digital artist. Oh, Am I sound arrogant?

You don't sound arrogant so far... just don't be overconfident now. I hope you've learned a lot with this piece of art and you continue to practise. You should NOT go around like "I'm finally a master and I'm the best"... okay? XD
But I'm sure you won't.
Just don't forget: you still have a lot to learn. We all do! ^^

Great looking nature I like the rainy forest set up in the picture, also the rain looks awesome but I might have thought that the water could have been seen going on lizardmen's bodies. Sadly I think that Skaro has most problems on his physique. He is again too slim from his waist and his left shoulder should be more BEHIND the chest actually. The left chest should have been more visible and the shoulder behind it. But also, nice work with Agamid's magical light effect.
I'm curious about that would you perhaps keep these advices in mind for the future works? Okeys? It would also ease remembering that you take a look at your newest sketches, maybe taken photograph and comparing it to best works that have little mistakes in them. That way I am sure you can get even better.

That is one way to stay cool while working out.
Myself, I could only do about 6 pull-ups (my guess, I don't know where I could try it) and I would wear something to keep the water out of my eyes (like a sweatband)...of course with that kind of workout, you do not need to see.
π: 0 β©: 1
TargonRedDragon In reply to Keyotea [2010-06-05 11:22:05 +0000 UTC]
That's great! For beginners only few pull-ups can do, but the expert athletes, etc. can do many. Under the cold day, they have cool bodys while working out ^ ^.

Although I don't have one I keep in shape by doing weights, walking (at least 5,000 steps a day), and taking marshal arts classes.
