As the the other canine grew further away from him, Hammy delved deeper into his trance-like state. It was as if her distance pulled at his mind, unzipping the scenery around him until it was nothing but an inky black void swirling around him.

He was no longer encased at the hip between two mildly weathered planks of wood, but instead floating in that unimaginable space between everything and nothing- between life and death, creation and eternal slumber. Hammy began to feel himself flip upside down within the vacuous abyss, but who's to say what was up or down in this never ending chamber of nothingness? Perhaps he had spent every waking day capsized in the sea of life until this very moment. He felt cleansed of his fleshly bonds of body and mind, and his soul was endowed with an understanding beyond any living creature's ability to withhold. He was truly at peace within this dark plane of existence.
