A lot of us find all of those topics interesting. She totally blew an opportunity for a genuine-article nerd-out (technically, most of her "nerd-outs" are actually geek-outs) when she's talking about the CORE but cuts herself off before she gets into the nitty-gritty of thermo-electric transduction (which is totally Tesla-grade stuff applicable topside). Sheldon Cooper would call that a "buzzkill."

Funny thing is she was originally written to be male. Tobes might have realized that the male version of that archetype is already over-represented in pop culture, so that might have been one reason he made her female.
