Description Thought I would give you a little tutorial to go with the new piece I will be (hopefully) uploading this evening.

I have been wanting to do this for a while, but never got round to scanning my work in stages and piecing it all together.

Beware it's a rather big file! if you'd like it bigger or notice any spelling mistakes or anything, please let me know!

Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if any of you find it at all helpful, and I may do other tutorials in the future.

hey, first off, I'd like to say I love your work!
I'm a guy and I still found the "playgirl" covers amusing!

But anyways, I got a few questions to ask you:

1.What are prismacolours (they're obviously colour pencils but why does everyone use them? I use caran d'ache swisscolor)

2.How long did you spend on this drawing?

3. How much do you spend on these prismacolours?

4.finally... Can you look at my work? (you don't have to)

Thank you!
Um to answer your questions about the pencils. Not everyone uses them, but they are a popular US brand for professional coloured pencil artists.
I used to ship mine over, but now I can get them inside the UK.

Not everyone uses them, they aren't to everyone's taste.

I've spend hundreds of pounds on them. I shipped a set over from the States in a wooden box, they set me back Β£130+

The Beetlejuice drawing took two weeks on and off. A fairly long time for me. I usually get my pieces done much quicker, but I had a lot on at the time.

Thank you!

I might get a small 24 or 12 pack set from Amazon UK or something and see if they're to my tastes

Oh, you've inspired me to try and do something new. Draw all my linearts in pencil and then scan them, digitally colour them and then colour the original lineart in colour pencils, to compare the two

I'm glad it was helpful for you! I wasn't really taught a lot at school about how to use coloured pencils really, I've sort of developed my own style, but I hope it's of some use!

wow!! Around how many prismas do you own?? I can never seem to get my shading right, specially since i mostly use prismas with crayolas and rosearts

tavington In reply to Gyr633 [2009-10-04 12:15:50 +0000 UTC]

Um, not sure of a figure exactly as I buy them in open stock. I have had sets of 24 and I own a set of 120 (which I havent even used yet!)
But I can probably safely say I own about 300 Prismas and a set of 48 Verithins.
Crayolas I have waaaaay more than Prismas, so if you ever needa Crayola fix, I have a set I haven't used of 50 in a lovely tin you can buy if you wanted it.

lol, okay I will keep that crayola offer in mind, but for now, I am pretty sure im set. And WOW! That is ALOT of colored pencils! That is understandable, though because pencils seem like the primary media you use, and your really good at using them too! And thank you very much for answering my question, I really appreciate it!

Not in this one. These are the "dark" versions in Super Smash Bros Brawl and he has white hair and Zelda a very pale blonde hair.

I buy open stock of the colours I really need. Before that, I got a 24 set for my birthday. Now I have my own 132 set in a nice wooden box.

I guess I should start using them soon!

This is a great tutorial, I love it! I had never even thought of laying down the dark tones first-- I think that this will help me with a few projects that I am working on.
A well-laid out tutorial, with really good illustrations!

Yeah, I rarely go much bigger. Working in fine illustration does not demand me to work much bigger than that, really!

How I do pictures like yours?
Or the digital art?
Or the spray stuff?

If you'd like me to do a digital Tutorial in the future, I will. I am planning on doing the Legendary PokΓ©mon (the 3 birds) soon, I may do a tutorial for that too!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

metalixkinonfire In reply to tavington [2008-05-18 22:27:25 +0000 UTC]

Ok, now I'm confused.

I said: "Great tutorial. I might give it a go after my exams!"

You said: "Great stuff! I hope you do! You must show me how you do it!"

And so I asked: "How I do pictures like yours? Or the digital art? Or the spray stuff?"

A digital art tutorial would be good, but what I was asking was whether you were asking me to do a tutorial for something or were you asking how I draw pictures?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tavington In reply to metalixkinonfire [2008-05-19 17:36:51 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I meant, to see what you come up with yourself, art wise, not tutorials! Sorry for the confusion! I was pretty tired when I was answering my messages last, and I think all the words got muddled together!

metalixkinonfire In reply to tavington [2008-05-19 18:14:16 +0000 UTC]

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

No problem about the confusion thing, I hate being tired too.

And finally, sorry for clogging up the comments on this picture. Delete them if you want.
