I was going to upload this next week, but I got too excited! Aw MAN this movie was good!
Kubo and the Two Strings is a stop-motion movie that follows young Kubo and his companions Monkey and Beetle on a perilous search for his father's sacred armor. This movie is so gorgeous, so smooth in animation, and so strong in story (AND it's Japanese influenced)! Don't even get me started on the character designs and detail!
The amount of stuff that goes on could actually be stretched out into several awesome graphic novels! I read that it took them 5 years to make this movie, and was disappointed to see not a lot of reaction to its release (but that may not be valid since I live in a really tiny town).
Then again, even I was wary of it since the company's previous movies were not good family quality. THIS movie gets the golden family seal! GO WATCH IT!!!! WATCH IT NOW!!!! (not forcing you if you're poor like me

If I look closely enough, I can tell that the Moon Beast has been sketched in. Yet at a glance, I feel as if I'm in front of the theatre screen again, seeing all of that detail and hearing Ralph Fiennes's voice: "Everything you loved is gone! Everything you knew has been taken from you!"
You even detailed the shamisen strings... very nice!

His dragon design is so crazy detailed yet incredible! I'd love to see the artist's sketchbook and concept art for other characters!

I'm not 100% sure if Laika was inspired by anything in particular when designing the Moon Beast, but judging from my own knowledge of Japanese mythology, it reminds me of Seta. Seta is a giant centipede demon that hunts and preys on dragons, and the Moon Beast certainly has a lot of body segments and legs not unlike a centipede's. It may have at least partly inspired the final design.
And I'd have to find it again, but I saw a concept image during one of their 'making of' featurettes that really surprised me. It was of Beetle, yet it was very dark in tone and the face deeply shadowed with only a glint of the eyes, making him appear intimidating and evil. I know it's floating around somewhere on YouTube.

Wow, this looks awesome! The amount of detail on that dragon thing in the background is astonishing *0* You even did each individual scale! The lighting is gorgeous as is the shading, and I just love the perspective! So intense
