Description
A commission I've done for a ... well, a skater. This one is going to be a display piece though.I used what is normally considered paint defects (overspray, smudges) in order to achieve the rust effects. I have also used some 'organic' stencils. Rust is something I like to paint and experiment with various ways of doing it.
Original wooden skateboard primed
2k brilliant white, polished
design done with Iwata water-based paint
2 coats of 2k clear
3M polish and glaze
apologies for low quality photos, I am still using my phone

It would be cool to actually ride this thing but as a display peice, very nice indeed.

I had some inquiries about protecting a skateboard so that it can be ridden. I haven't found anything yet but I will look more.

It looks very cool, but also a bit disorganized, like there was no obvious plan for it. I like the idea of the bolts, but some parts look like photoshop copy-paste. Having a few tilted bits of rusty metal bolted along a single metal texture would probably look better. Still, love the cogs.

Damn sweet job!!
If I still rode these suckers I'd be the biggest pain in your ass right now.

Once it's lacquered it can only be a display piece. It's the automotive paint process, same as cars so it has the same level of tolerance to scratches as a bumper

Aww shits.
Well... isn't there a way you can "put it under glass" with some kind of
multilayer HEAVY THICK as HELL shit that would protect it??
I'm not a formally schooled artist so I don't have any suggestions on the materials
or protective applications I'm hinting towards. Gotta be SOMETHING on the market, ay

I'd have to have a look into it. The hardest thing that I can think of is fibreglass, but I am not sure if it's available in clear. I'll speak to my colleagues at work, see what they can come up with.
