Description
But it's all artificial.Hey, you! Like anthro chinese crested dogs and/or amphibians? Then why don't you
check out more pictures with Jinjing-Yu and Adreea over HERE ?
I made a lot of high-effort art recently, and learned a huge amount of things. It's left me feeling extremely drained. This piece marks the end of that for a while and now I will focus on making some simple stuff.
Fun fact: not counting the grass, hair, and tessellation, there are over 35 million polys in this scene, and the file itself takes over 400mb, while they are normally up to 150mb. #JustFoliageThings (and yes, the trees and bushes ARE instanced; they're just so damn dense)

Great pic.
But, just out of curiosity, would it be possible to see some close-ups of the characters?

To be honest, I don't think that's necessary. The piece is mostly about the environment, and the characters don't look much more interesting or detailed in the full res anyway. .-.
But thanks!

The environment in the pic really does look stunning. As does the lighting.
Just thought I could see more details, but if not, well, it's still a masterpiece of a render.

I find simple is usually better, but this piece definitely makes a case for the opposite. Truly a lovely work of art, and I'm quite amazed at the file size, never really had my old 3D files go above 30mb though I never did work as complicated as this with 3D.

I guess it really depends on what kind of picture you make. If you want to show off a pose, a simple environment is better. But if you want to tell a story, a simple scene usually won't do it. Unless you're like REALLY good. I'm not. Yet. Or something.
And yeah, I blame the trees for the file size. The characters are maybe 120mb at most (mainly because of the hair, as the models are like 20mb). The cheapest tree is around 500,000 polys, while the most expensive one is like 2,500,000 polys. There are 5 kinds of trees, and 5 kinds of bushes, each of the latter around 100,000 polys. So yeah. ._.

Yeah I suck at telling a story with my work at the moment, but I'm sure if I focus on it I'd get a lot better over time. Keep working on it yourself and I hope to see some more great stories conveyed through your work in the future.
That's a lot of polys. Though I find things can be more impressive when a scene turns out beautiful with significantly less polys. High details on models like these are usually overlooked by the casual viewer. It's kind of why I think emphasis on high detail and effects in games these days is much less important than a great aesthetic. I kind of wonder how your work would look if you minimized the number of polys you used in scenes like these, and figured out ways of making it look just as good.Β
Anyway with all of those polys it must have taken a long while for this to render out, not to mention the lighting and the fish eye lens effect. I'd be worried that I'd kill my fairly powerful desktop rendering something like this out.

Thank you!
And the cheapest commissions I do are $30, but this pic would be much more expensive than that.
$30 gets you one character (of my existing ones) on a simple background. Like a pinup basically.
