I know!

But I think it's just their conservative attitude, sticking to "the old way" and "how we always used to do it" instead of trying out something new, that could - Heaven forbid! - bring change.

you're right... cause windows in now way can ever be changed... I mess with many different systems, from servers to switches. And not one system do I not have a bitch or complaint about. Consider this. I'm some sort of programmer that wants to grief and cause some mayhem by effecting the largest amount of people I can. What system do you think I want to attack? One with the largest user base or one with a few...? Do you really believe that if everyone for some reason said "to hell with windows I'm going to use Linux" that it would change any thing? eventually someone would commercialize what they can and the dollar would just change hands is all(yahoo-google-bing-ask what ever you use to search with can be used to easily do some research(you know google allows you to pay to have your site placed at the top of the search)just saying). Linux would just be the new windows and bitching an complaining would in sue with the hard core calling everyone else that doesn't follow or agree with there Opinion losers... and some know it all who hopped on their own band wagon will tell you how much better/smarter they are. I'm sure your goal was to spark a little fire and get some attention. There are plenty of forums out there, were you can voice your opinion with out taking away from someones creation/art.

*wall of text*

If you indeed are some sort of programmer, than you're a bad one; for the very first thing, any programmer learns, is to write things in a way, that it can be easily read (which is why every programming language allows comments).

lmao my bad I figured someone with your intellect should be able to read it just fine, sorry for giving you that much credit...also programmers learn to understand what they write for future reference... so whats easy for me to read and understand may not be as easy for someone else...(I hate people messing with my code) it's also good that I was writing some code there as well... err wait... yeah.....
"consider this"... my bad, should of been "here's a hypothetical idea" and I suppose next time I'll double space it for you...

Actually, I can read at an above-college level. I just prefer not to embellish on those skills. But that's beside the point. Why don't you like Windows, anyway? And don't just say something like "Because I'm smarter," or, "Because Windows is dumb." A LEGITIMATE answer would be nice ^u^

I think I did, but to sum it up for you:

Windows is very expensive, horribly unsafe, slow, requires constant maintenance and updates, leaves backdoors to (government) surveillance, ... Microsoft also abuses its power to prevent innovation and development on the software market. Linux on the other hand is free (!!!), opensource (no secret things embedded in the source code), can easily be customized, has a clear and working security concept, has no registry/does not slow down with time, does not require all the maintenance (antivirus, defragmentation, registry cleaners, ...), works "out of the box" (requires no additional drivers to be searched, downloaded and installed; works from USB drives), provides you with a big database of safe and comprehensive programs to chose from (i.e. no unsafe downloads from websites, no difficult searching for programs), your start menu and folders dont get cluttered with all kind of stuff whenever you install something (lots of that stuff even remains after uninstall), encourages innovation and interoperability. Programs run on Linux are much faster than on Windows (i.e. you require less strong hardware to play a game compared to a Windows pc).

Btw, did I mention that it is free?!!! I mean, why pay 200 bucks or more for a bad OS, when you can get a better one for free? And if you use Windows, you will have to buy it again, when your husband/wife/son/daughter buys his/her own computer. Btw, did I mention that (basically) all the other programs on Linux are free too? No silly Microsoft Office, et.al.

tinyblonde11 In reply to Theaitetos [2012-08-19 20:17:02 +0000 UTC]

I understand, but Linux has one thing wrong: The open source programming.

Lets say some homeland terrorist group (like Anonymous or someone like that) had the Linux program. That terrorist group could switch up the source code and place in a virus or a bug. A simple signature hider and other programs like that could make the virus "pretend" like it's an update or something important, and it would stretch to every computer running Linux. Because it hides itself as an update, it would be meshed in with the actual Linux system, and removing it could mean removing something else along with it.

Also, nothing is ever free. At one point in time, the program was either bought, or it took some sort of time off of your hands. Money isn't just that green stuff in your pocket, it's anything that is traded for something else. In this case, it's trading a program for either computer and/or Internet space.

Y'know, I'm actually getting kind of sick of your close-mindedness. Microsoft isn't evil, they're just a regular company, like Apple and Linux. Also, Linux has had it's own share of controversies [link] >:I

I didn't see those, lolz xD I tried using Linux once for about a month or something. I never really liked it, it just reminded me of Mac. I liked the fact that it was basically free, though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Theaitetos In reply to tinyblonde11 [2012-08-19 04:10:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, Apple took the free Linux and then transformed it into its "Mac" so it can prevent people from choosing freely. Chosing between Microsoft and Apple is like chosing between Scylla and Charybdis.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tinyblonde11 In reply to Theaitetos [2012-08-19 04:27:21 +0000 UTC]

I'd go for Scylla xD

But seriously, I don't like to see the bad in operating systems. Sure, Windows may have a few kinks and stuff, but it has the most popularity and more programs to choose from. In contrast, Mac is less popular and has fewer programs, but the actual system is very nice and almost never gets any bugs or viruses. As for Linux, it kind of has the best of both worlds. I can understand your side of the story, but there are reasons as to why people choose their operating systems.

Also, Windows is cheaper than Mac (by a difference of almost $400 - $600 )

Theaitetos In reply to tinyblonde11 [2012-08-19 04:44:46 +0000 UTC]

Linux is for free. Mac isn't really an alternative, as you would be stuck in the same system of company abuse. And the only reason why Windows is still predominant, is because Microsoft invests so much in programs only being available in Windows. If you look at markets where you don't need those fancy programs, you see Linux winning clearly, for example servers, main frames and supercomputers: [link]

I was making a joke initially. Not my fault if people get so serious about it. Anyone with a little research skill and curiosity can easily find online "why Microsoft is evil" so to speak and what negative effects the dominance of Windows has on this world.

I'm sorry, but when someone writes 5 words, with 1 of those being "Haha", and you don't get that this is a joke, then that's your fault. Read this: [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IamHaden In reply to Theaitetos [2012-08-20 02:48:37 +0000 UTC]

in this case, "Haha" looked more like a mock than a joke, which a lot of people interpreted it to be. seeing as you didnt count on that happening, whose fault is this really? and it doesnt feel any less like a mock now that you directed me to a Wikipedia page with humor as its topic, you condescending little douche.
