Description L-l-l-look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?

So in the 90's, while you fags played with your dumbass autistic OCD Pokeymans and that piece-of-shit Mario, I was playing one of the most immersive and innovative games of that time, and one of the coolest sci-fi stories told - System Shock 1 & 2. It also fed my love for cyberpunk.

These games gave birth to survival horror genre in vidya, and served as inspiration for Bioshock and Dead Space series.

And of course, what would these games be without the most malicious and twisted sentient AI, SHODAN? Nothing at all.

Drew this on a whim, totally from scratch and by hand. With new dubstep tracks to help me [link]

It was I who chose you and I who had a robotic servant render your form unconscious. I then completed you with cybernetic grace. Your flesh, too, is weak. But you have... potential. Every implant exalts you. Every line of code in your subsystems elevates you from your disgusting flesh. Perhaps you have potential. Perhaps once we have erased my wayward children from existence, we can examine the possibilities of a real alliance

She's returning soon in System shock 3! Can't wait to meet her again (though it would be cool to play as her in the next game )

Oh heh. Well anyway, never heard of the 1994 game? Seriously advanced game for it's time, simply amazing. Sad that fewish people recognize the first game.Β

Great Job, I saw the image as i was scrolling though images and had to come check it out.

I really, reallly, realllllllyyyyyyyy hated that voice by the end of the game.. the satisfaction of Pulling her plug was well worth the aggravation

te many were just a pain in the neck, those bloody monkeys made me see red...but SHODAN...her I wanted to do unspeakable things to..

Do you want to know the truth?
They need you
They are mechanical, maniacal, derived
You couldn't drown in their gene pool if you tried
But they're all made up in brilliant disguise
Selling the very thing they most want
But cannot possess - You

And magic is the key to their success
A simple sleight-of-hand steals your autonomy
Leaving you believing you are in control

Needs more lag in your quote. o.o

"L-l-l-l-look at you hacker, a p-p-...p-p-pathetic creature of m-meat and bones." Cause there was a lot of lag, and barely any in your description. Y'know? o:

Awesome picture though. ^-^

Also, calling Pokemans and Mario those things is kinda harsh, isn't it? I mean, I played a lot of hardcore games in the 90s, but I also played Nintendo games as well.

It's almost like you have contempt for those games. o3o

The System Shock series was one of my all time favourites, i still play it when i can. The setting, the mood, and ofcourse, the digital lady herself, still inspire me. Easily shits all over many games of today, and this picture fucking rocks. I dont think SHODAN would be impressed but i am. *favourites*

You don't seriously think that SHODAN had an acceptable AI design?
I admit that her voice is completely perfect for an evil AI.
Everything other aspect around her is very dull though.

This looks just so fantastically evil. Exactly what SHODAN is once you think about it, even though her SS2 counter part appeared kind of insane and it seemed to me that she was actually developing some sort of attachment to her "thrall" if the reaction to his rejection of her offer at the end of System Shock 2 is anything to go by...or I'm completely miss interpreting something here...

Goddess from Citadel Station. It's interesting, that in the first 'System Shock' she was introduced as him. Her face is so neutral here, that it can be conisdered as scary, actually (and it was in the game). I guess it's average painting for you, but looks remarkable for me. Neat job!

I've seen SHODAN's mug around the internet enough time to recognise it anywhere. I was too young to get games like System Shock 1 and 2 and my family couldn't afford a computer with enough cream back then anyway. But I must say the adult me is sad she missed out on stuff like this.

I had to look up the original picture, and if you did this on a whim, TD, I must say I am impressed. Sure, some mirroring going on, but shit dude! Dem details. You even got the circuitry on SHODAN's face down pat.

Maybe it is just me, but this feels a bit like it composition-wise also inspired you when you did the Prophet of Damnation pic: [link]
The inversion of detailed background and less detailed/smoother features of the focal character. Not so much the subject matter, as composition and detailing, as said. Maybe not consciously, but I think it is there.

Nice job!

When I was a kid, I never had a gameboy, so my friend let me try pokemon on his. After about 5 minutes I asked him: "How is this a game? You just scroll through menus and watch them fight. You're not actually doing anything."

He got upset, took his gameboy and left.

I didn't play it growing up, mostly cuz I had a dickass dick of a computer. In the 90s I was fucking around with my cousin's ancient NES. My nostalgia predates my existence.

I did play it later, though, and I wish there would be another A-list game as interesting as this. Closest I get to the feeling of immersion, excitement, and fear as SS2 is Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

90% of everything is shit and all that.

Shodan?

I prefer Hal-9000. He seems much more scary then Shodan. The AI form SS2 seems much more human, making it feel as if she is simply insane. While Hal, on the other hand seems like an evil calculator. His main motive for killing the main character is that he sees humans as inefficient for the space journey. Everything, from his monotone tone, to his last words: "don't do it, Dave" seems unsettling in the very best way possible. Without the emotions, he displays the very evil of humans, that we think too much and feel to little and in the very end the human will prevails over the strength and intelligence of the machine. Qualities that we seem much more important for us, most of the times forgetting what really makes us human. But that is simply an opinion.

My art teacher ones told me that the idea of that the idea of AI in popular culture is a variation of the "Ubermench" idea. That machines will hate us not because they will be better then humans, but rather they would be the reflection of ourselves. They would be gods, but with the small understanding of a human, incapable of forgiveness and love as many don't know.

I never played the game, sadly. I was too busy with Deus ex and Half-Life 1 at the time.

Great peace, nonetheless.
