Description
ASPIS 3Name:RICHARD BRISK
Age: 43
Height:201cm
Weight:207.13kg
TALK ABOUT TL;DR if you actually read all this you deserve a prize or something ahaha
A BIT OF BACKGROUND: Richard is a special-police-forces cyborg, Aspis series, on the splinter-migratory colony on Saturn’s moon, Titan (if you wanna know what that is just ask it’s a whole other ref haha). Richard was a volunteer for the program, to become a cyborg after he fled to the colony as a refugee from Poland. He is originally from Canada, went to Germany for University where he got a PhD in engineering, and got a job in Poland working on trying to design a hyper-space engine. He was forced to flee when Russia invaded the country searching for its refugees, who were bearers of ~military secrets~. Richard has been in the cyborg program for six years, and doesn’t really know why he signed up. The Aspis programme was initiated in response to genetically modified people with psionic (telepathic, telekinetic, etc) abilities, who were terrorizing the colony for unknown reasons. After getting them under control and initiating programs to integrate them into society, the other four models in the Aspis series were retired for various reasons, two to complete stasis for undisclosed reasons. Richard is the only one that remains operating, and mostly works patrolling the streets and giving people a sense of security/looking friendly. He occasionally works with Spatha and Cerebro units (other types of cyborgs) on psion related cases or just other policework where an Aspis model is useful.
PERSONALITY: Richard is very passive, so much so that when he does not view himself in the position of a law enforcement officer trying to help a civilian, he has difficulty speaking with people and making friends. That said, this passivity also keeps him out of trouble, and he doesn’t really usually start fights or get into fights with people looking to start a fight with him – he’s not actually that easily intimidated. He often deflects questions he doesn’t want to answer by agreeing to answer them and then leaving to do something else without answering the question. He won’t tell people anything about his design, as that is a security risk! He’s pretty shy even when he does open up to people and the people with the most luck pushing him around tend to be his friends. He is often a bit slow on the uptake as he often zones in and out of conversations, focusing in on the relative parts and often asking questions in the middle of sentences he's not interested in. When he does pay attention, however, he’s extremely astute, but he does have trouble focusing unless it’s rather imperative. He gets frustrated when people expect him to do something but don’t offer a clear objective.
Tidbits: Richard avoids touching his face with his hands. He has no real feeling in any of his mechanical parts, he is aware when they are touched but not in the same way one is aware of pain or texture or heat or anything like that. He’s usually very startled when people touch his face! He also feels no paint except in the parts of his body where his organic system extends, as shown on the reference sheet. He has a pretty low pain threshold. He talks to himself when no one is looking and also makes faces – but he tries to pretend to be a robot when strangers are around.
COMBAT TACTICS
Richard is very much an ask questions first, shoot later kind of person and he will pretty much always attempt to harmlessly incapacitate a foe, and will only resort to lethal amounts of force if it is absolutely necessary. This is less of a moral qualm for Richard so much as it’s been hammered into his head ever since he became a cyborg – cyborg cops killing people is extremely bad press. It is partly a moral question too, of course, Richard’s not really keen on killing anyone, though he has before.
Richard will usually try to maintain range and incapacitate a target from a distance. He is only fast after he has been able to build momentum, so sudden changes and things like close-combat don’t suit him. He will try to smack you down if you get too close, and it will hurt a whole lot because those arms weigh a lot. Once he builts momentum, Richard can run pretty fast (so long as he is not in a high gravity environment) but he can't really shoot accurately at all or do any combat except maybe running into people (which would hurt.)
SCHEMATICS
Head: Richard’s head is mostly organic, though his skin has been augmented to be a bit thicker than the average person’s – he doesn’t cut quite as easily. Other than that, the only changes are his eyes, which are both mechanical and capable of generating an HUD that displays infrared targets and has facial recognition software. The software normally draws from a database (the Grid) that Richard is linked to, which also displays GPS and other important information. Richard has no access to the grid while he’s not on Titan Colony, though, so the only benefit he has is infrared and computer-assisted targeting.
Arms: Richard’s arms are essentially both weapons with entirely different purposes: his left arm, detailed in the reference, is for non-lethal incapacitation of targets, while his right arm is a four-cylinder machine gun (fired from the tips of the fingers) which is obviously lethal. To use the right arm, his entire arm from the shoulder must be straight (it can lock into position and unlock fairly quickly). He has a limited ammo supply (about 30 seconds worth of continuous fire) and will not use this arm unless it’s necessary, and will practically never use it against a living target.
The Emitter arm is for none-lethal purposes. In addition to the firing modes described above, Richard can enter an overdrive state, which allows him to use the emitter without fear of running out of points. However, for ever minute Richard uses the emitter, he must go offline to regenerate power for an hour. Using the overdrive has the potential to kill Richard via powerloss, whereas running out of points only means he is unable to use the emitter. He will not resort to the overdrive unless he is on the verge of death.
Richard’s arms, just above the elbow joint (but below the nervous tissue) are completely removeable and replaceable with anything that can plug into the interface, and he is able to swap to smaller, more manageable models if he has them or replace damaged parts easily. Anything above this point, however, is difficult to repair.
Legs: Richard’s legs both have extremely powerful magnets in them, which Richard was designed with originally to defeat telekinetic psions by being able to anchor himself to the ground. However, the magnets have proven more useful by Richard’s ability to reverse the polarity and actually repel himself from the ground slightly. His frame (namely his arms and the legs themselves) is too heavy to operate at maximum capacity at the type of gravity a planet like Earth would have (he wouldn’t really be able to run) but if there is metal beneath his feet, he’ll be able to somewhat compensate. It also gives him an advantage in 0-G environments, which he is designed to function perfectly in, and he is equipped with a pneumatic system that allows him to manoeuvre, and he can anchor himself to anything metal or magnetic. Like his arms, from just above the knee joint down, the legs are easily removed and replaced with other parts or spares.
Chest: Richard’s chest is the most heavily armoured part of his body, as it protects his internal organs and his power source, which is a small nuclear reactor capable of flattening a few city blocks. However, this reactor is encased in even more armour, and is intended to survive even if the rest of Richard is completely destroyed. The chest is fairly small as it was trimmed to compensate for the weight of Richard’s arms and legs. His coat is meant to cover up and fill him out, making him not look creepy and disproportionate. GOTTA KEEP ON A FRIENDLY FACE! The chest also houses all the organs and mechanical devices that keep Richard’s organic parts alive and functioning. It also houses his one lung, which he doesn’t use to get oxygen – it’s used for speech and for dispelling toxins, now, and has been heavily modified.
Other notes:
-Richard’s brain doesn’t really contain a complex enough interface that he can hack into computers with it. He is, however, very tech-savvy, and can do this without the need for computer enhancements. He can however view files via his HUD in his eye if they are sent to him via wi-fi on the right frequency. Additionally, trying to hack Richard’s mechanical interface is nearly impossible – there’s no way to access it remotely, you would have to tap into his neural network, which is pretty complicated without the right equipment. You can, however, hack his eyes.
-Richard is designed to absorb shock, so unlike most robots he is not prone to short-circuiting and isn’t paralyzed by electrocution. This was included because of scenarios imagined in which the Emitter malfunctioned. The exception is that his head is still vulnerable, so shocking him there will do as much damage as it would to anybody.
-All the parts of Richard that can be easily replaced are not as durable as the parts that are difficult to repair. Richard was already very expensive to make so they had to cut budget somewhere. Several shots from a handgun or several good whaps with a lead pipe will dink them up enough that they will become prone to malfunctions. In the end though, they are still made of carbon-ceramics, just pretty comparably shitty ones, so you’re not going to break them with your fists unless you have much more strength than the average person.
-Richard’s mechanical-organic interface design is actually based off of ill-gotten blueprints from the collapsing Russian government (in his universe, the Cold War never ended and resulted in nuclear bombings in Russia and part of the United States, and later Canada when they accepted Russian refugees) and it was not implemented perfectly due to a missing component…

READ IT ALL STILL WANT MORE.
Richard is just...there's so much thought that went into his design it's kinda mind-blowing. Mostly the magnets and reasoning for being impervious to the shocks and stuff. Kinda interested to see if he ends up having to fight in high gravity (possibly with no immediate metal surfaces). :0
ALSO AFTER READING THE COMMENTS CYBORG009 NOW I WANT TO WATCH IT ALL AUGHDKLSJAKFL

I KNOW RIGHT AUGH IT'S SUCH A GREAT SHOW --
NO YEAH I basically sat around and non-scienced for ages about Richard's design. I was like "WHAT WOULD THEY PUT INTO THIS CYBORG AND WHY"
(I am totally going to make him fight in high gravity) (It's gonna be great)

SILLY QUESTION how stylised is his nose? Like, is the triangle shape a result of your drawing or is it actually a shape just welded to his face?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TeachMeMogster In reply to MisterCrowbar [2012-01-01 19:48:01 +0000 UTC]
IT'S PARTLY a shape welded to his face partly stylized -- it's actually just reinforced with a bit of dermal plating because first day out on the job as a cyborg he got hit in the face with a postbox by a telekinetic and had it broken pretty terribly. It was originally the same sort of shape but not as sharp looking, if that makes sense? I have before and after drawings but I did them awhile ago, haha. It's pretty stylized I guess.
