Description I cleaned it up in photoshop because the original drawing paper was in such bad shape. It was a sketch I started on copy paper but decided to follow through with and finish. Originally drawn with pencil on copy paper-> brightness/contrast in photoshop. (I also wiped the smudges out of the backgriund)

Very nice~! I really like the shading on the face
Did you spend a long time on this one? Just drawing a face takes me forever lol

The face was the hardest part honestly. I didn't go full on with the detailing because of the copy paper and the fact that I wasn't using my best pencils, but it was more of a chalenge because I was trying to see how much I could get out of working with limitations. I guess you could say I was trying to do more with less. I honestly want to try some "hyper-realism" but with a comic and an animation project I have to give myself some time.

I get what you mean... I want to try drawing more realistically, but I
always get impatient in the end, so it never looks "real." Do you find
it difficult switching between styles? I find that most of my work takes
the middle road (i.e. half of it seems realistic while half of it seems animated lol).

I know exactly what you mean. I can draw one of my own characters in less than a few minutes...so sometimes I get impatient even coloring them. One cure I have found is staying in one "mode" for awhile and then switching when it becomes arduous. I have a sketch mode, where I do nothing but sketches, a photoshop/illustration mode, a traditional coloring mode, and a full on drawing mode where I can get very fussy over small details. I find it easier if you have smaller peices on the side to help you feel the satisfaction of seeing completed work while you work on something more...ambitious. Looking at all the work here on DA has me really anxious to show what I can do because A. there are alot of good artist here and B. I really feel like I can illustrate my versatility and show off work that I can't on my personal website (for copyright reasons I can't have Naruto or other anime/video game characters on my website). That's why I really like your work, I think stylistically we have similar aims.

P.S. I was thinking of starting a gallery for my sketchbook becuase there is alot of work in there that while not finished...I think is at least cool. You think I should do it or just show completed work?

I'm the same way! lol. Sometimes I can't even draw a particular
style because I'm in a different "mode." I still have to get
used to photoshop/corel/etc. so I don't have that mode yet lol.
Yea, I always doodle in between doing anything major...I think it
just keeps me going so any skills I do possess don't stagnate
I agree with you about DA...everytime I see something that blows
me away, I just want to improve myself even more and develop
a more versatile style (that rhymed..I am lame lol). I really like
your style too...it's angular (I know that doesn't make sense..but
in my head it does, and it's a compliment!) and I always envy
your colouring style (I think I mention that all the time..forgive
me )

P.S. You should totally do the gallery idea...it'd be nice to see
the development of your art
