I lived in Romania for a while. Not the best place to live, crappy ex-Soviet blocs tend not to be all that well off, but the people were some of the nicest you'll ever meet. And they have great hiking trails.
Fun Fact: When Romania joined the EU, the number of wild boars, bears, and wolves doubled for the entire European Union. So that means they had more wild animals that all the other European countries combined. Mind. Blown.
