Summary of Story:

Sage was content with her life, her Mothers had cared for her a lot and she lived in a cozy home in a decent neighborhood. At times she was bullied for her two mothers and how she had always talked to herself. She had two good friends; Sarah and Richard Philips. The three of them enjoyed playing with each other in their backyards, often promising how'd they always be friends.
This quickly changed after the accident happened with The World Trade Center, a.k.a Twin Towers. Sage had been visiting her Mama with Sarah and Richard's Mother since her other Mom was working. Sarah and Richard remained home though due to their 'intense' game with their Father who wasn't around often.
During the attack Sage and Mrs. Philips were talking with Sage's Mama in one of the restaurants. Being near the top didn't make escaping any easier. All Sage could hear was her Mama calling for her and too young to understand most of what was occurring she had ran toward the voice.

        Sage was found underneath Mrs. Philips deceased body, half of her face and most of her body burned horribly. Barely alive and hurt terribly she was rescued and brought to a hospital. After a long while of recovering she hadn't been the same. She shut Richard and Sarah out and remained in her room as her Mother mourned the death of her wife.
Richard blamed Sage for his Mother's death. If she hadn't wanted to visit her Mama then his Mother would still be alive! He had grown a bit cold toward Sage while Sarah tried her best to talk to her. Mr. Philips, their Father, had to pick up another poor paying job since money was low. This left Sarah and Richard with a lot of babysitters. Without the comfort of his father, Richard grew even colder and began to pick on Sage. He took his anger out on her saying things considered cruel by children.
"You meanie! You deserve those burns!"
"You killed her! My Mom is not okay because of you!"
"...At least I know my Father."

After talking to Richard's Father of the remarks his son made Sage's Mother decided to move. They left their old lives behind starting out fresh in Sacramento California. After losing her old friends, Mama, and daily routine Sage had begun to get a bit lost. She was distant with her Mother, always thinking but never acting. With the burns still all over her body she was teased quite a lot for her appearance, kids often calling her funny looking.
Soon enough she had begun Middle School though the teasing had worsened. Fights often broke out with her and other girls, never started by her of course. She tried running from fights instead of actually fighting. She was labeled wimp, loser, coward, etc.
Sick of being teased and asked if she was alright by teachers she tried to fit in. It didn't go to well and took a horrible fall when she reached high school. Trying to gain friends and focus more on reality then her thoughts, thoughts in which focused on her life with her Mama, she began doing what other girls did. She spent most of her Mother's needed money on expensive brand clothes. She wore makeup, expensive clothes, and acted like most girls except a bit more.

Her Mother, seeing her struggle, tried to keep Sage happy by spending money that they didn't have on things she wanted. She offered paying for therapy for Sage but Sage had always said she was alright or that it was what everyone else was doing.
One day, walking home from school, Sage had ran across a small stuffed toy. Something compelled her to take it so she did. Quickly things began to change. Her depressing thoughts of her Mama's death were replaced by degrading thoughts of herself. Her somewhat kind attitude toward her Mother's worries were replaced by a snappy, rude one.
She had grown vulnerable to little insults such as:
You're fat!
You're ugly!
No one loves you!
Trying to fit in she had tried picking on younger kids. It didn't last for long as she begun to realize how she had affected them. Things got worse after Richard and Sarah exchanged schools, attending hers. Sarah had grown a strong hate for Sage after living with her brother's hate. Though, Sarah sort of cared for her she never showed it.
Sarah and Richard began to spread rumors of Sage turning more people against her. Cyber bullying began to start and Sage received horrid texts/messages, most from Richard. Sage had begun to try harder to fit in which resulted in her starting to party late, drink, and have s*x. Richard was able to manipulate her further and begun using her.
His care for his childhood friend had disappeared, though Sage had believed that he and Sarah were still friends. Her Mother had noticed Sage's strange behavior and after checking Sage's phone in search for a reason why she had seen the many cruel messages.
The bear she had found, that had messed with her mind, messed with Sage further as she began to yell at her Mother, blaming her for her Mama's death since she had no one else to blame. Now having violent outbreaks Sage's Mother decided to have Sage go to therapy whether she wanted to or not.

The teddy bear she had found continued to play with her mind and the night Sage became Teddy she thought she saw the bear start a fire. Her house burned down and Sage was trapped inside. Somehow the half of the stuffed toy's face ended up burning into her own. Tufts of the fur burned into the burnt skin Sage had. Now covered in burns and fur she knew she wouldn't fit in and that her efforts were pointless from the start.
She stayed home, waiting for her Mother so she could apologize and hug her tightly, something she needed to do since her Mother's death. The bear had other plans and Sage ended up attacking her Mother.

Her Mother overpowered her easily since Sage had been starving herself to be skinny and fit in. With little strength and ruined lungs from the fires she had been through Sage found herself defeated by her Mother who in an act of terror called the police on her.
She ran, becoming one with the bear.
