Description
The Steampunk Mobile Phone otherwise known as 'The Pocket Aether Perambulator'I've been working on this for months, on and off, and got tired of not posting anything.
Strictly speaking is this steampunk? I have no idea, its just a label.
The dimensions for this are based on my trusty Nokia N95, It opens much like a netbook and boasts the following features.
*Fob ring - for attaching to a gentlemans pocket chain
*External Chronograph - with visible mechanism
*External Camera Obscura - for capturing magical images which might take ones fancy
*Internal Camera Obscura - for presenting images of your own visage whilst communing over the aetheric web
*Miniaturised QWERTY typewriter - to aid in the preparation of Aether-grams
*Aetheric plasma picture frame - for viewing the aetheric web
*Internal magnetic resonance speaker/microphone
*Dedicated buttons for accessing the aetheric web
*Exquisite external engraving and name plate bearing the following information 'The Pocket Aether Perambulator - enabling communion across aetheric space. As presented by Prof. A. J. G. Wellsby'
Still a WIP so C&C's welcome
Note: Lighting not quite right yet

Hi. Would you consider selling this? Is it set to a specific network, or would I be able to set my own?

Hi man
Your comment really is the best ... this is not real its a digital model.
Oh if only it were real, I would be using it right now probably... but I can't so I just sit here gazing longingly at it,
thanks for making this you first page view and comment... the gallery including work in progress shots can be found here [link]

Final Renders in progress, got a nice bit of DOF going on, a bit smoother here and there, but not much!

cool continue , with your 3d software you can adjust the DOF camera ? or you created after the render with a 2d software ?

use kerkythea which allows you to mimic camera blur using F numbers, its pretty cool. sometimes doesn't quite provide the blur I want, (for example architectural scale stuff) in which case i'll render a depth map and do the DOF in GIMP

ah ok the system is limited , but yes you adjust the map with a 2d software , it's a good solution for a fix image

My thanks
It is imperative that one is precise in explaining the exact specifications of certain Aether based apparatus to avoid injury you understand

wholesomely understood my good sir, one's curiosities could put them in a tight fitting if one doesn't have full knowledge of what they are doing. even with a simple device such as this magnificent contraption
speaking of, where might one procure just such a fantastical apparatus?
i bid you good day my fine sir

alas this is but a prototype, should the artificer obtain sufficient funds, manufacture will commence immediately!

As a lover of steampunk and as a person who loves creating things in sketchup and rendering in kerkythea I have nothing more to say than how wonderful this looks. I love the details you put in here and the look of the total device. Am I right when I say that even the display looks like it is lightly damaged? And of course the scratches on the outer shell. I wish someday I could reach this level of designing these kind of creations. I love to see the end result of this project. Even tho when this WIP already looks like a end result to me. Two thumbs up!!

My thanks for your kind words
Actually the display is not damaged, I think that's artefacts from a short render time, either that or i distressed the screen image (can't quite remember)
The scratches on the outer shell were a labour of love, to get the right resolution and fineness was a bit of a nightmare. In total its been over six month since i started this, it was basically the next thing i started after the steampunk raygun. and its nearly broken my love of sketchup (i suspect that will be easily repaired)

Well, at the moment I will keep it with my house designs But in the future I want to see if I am also able to create nice concepts like this

A most intriguing device sir! However, I rather doubt such
a fiendish gadget will ever really catch on....

My thanks for your kind words, perchance you are viewing the aetheric web as we speak, sir?
Consider if you will, the ability to peruse this community whilst travelling within a steam locomotive! a most beguiling proposition I think you'll agree.
Mayhap you desire to inform your most beloved of your imminent return from your travails? and yet no telegraph machine is available to you! How to overcome this quandry?
I think perhaps you may be surprised at its uses.

Well said sir! I shall inspect my current portfolio, with a view to possible investment
in your fascinating mechanism.....
Superb concept Andrew, can't wait to see the final product - although this looks pretty
'finished' to my eye!

I shall look forward to your forthcoming funds
To be honest its not far off completion, a bit of tweaking of materials and lighting, adding photographic elements such as depth of field and the like.
I just couldn't wait to share
