Description
As per my last two instalments in this section, these are just interesting bits of information about my DC canon-made fanfiction universe. You can find links to the other two here: Part 1: technomizer.deviantart.com/art… and part 2: technomizer.deviantart.com/art…Anit-Justice Leagues - In the wake of the formation of the Justice League there seemed to be a response in the super-villain community which lead to the formation of several “Anti-Justice League” groups; some carrying different names, agendas and leaders but all having the same structure as the League itself. Over time the numbers on these groups has fluctuated, same as the Justice League’s own ranks, from being a small handful to a fully formed organization.
The first of these groups was known as the “Injustice League” which each member being specifically chosen to combat the founder members of the League. These included Bizzaro (Superman), Deathstroke (Batman), the Cheetah (Wonder Woman), Black Manta (Aquaman), Sinestro (Green Lantern), Reverse-Flash (Flash), and Psimon (Martian Manhunter). Each were specifically chosen by the group’s secret benefactor Lex Luthor. While he was never publically exposed Luthor’s intention was to test the powers of the League itself, taking it into consideration for future confrontations to come.
The second Injustice League appeared roughly two years later, this group being independent from Luthor or the original group itself. Gorilla Grodd mentally controlled each member and, as with Luthor, picked specific individuals to combat against members of the League, including Black Adam (Superman/Shazam), Catwoman and Bane (Batman), Giganta, Felix Faust (Zatanna), Killer Frost (Firestorm), and Merlyn (Green Arrow). Grodd’s overall main goal was revenge against the Flash. After Grodd’s defeat most of the criminals were arrested with him.
Four more years passed with smaller groups of rag-tag villains trying to accomplish what pervious Anti-Justice League groups did. Most groups were comprised of street level villains such as the Penguin, the Parasite, Metallo, Doctor Psycho, Solomon Grundy, Sportsmaster, Captain Cold and Clayface.
After many failed groups Vandal Savage soon stepped into the light and used his resources and influence to begin what was soon dubbed the “Secret Society”. Savage’s organization worked in a similar faction to the Justice League but with more of a monopoly on all criminal activities. All profit gained from any group efforts would be shared equally and if a member worked solo but remained connected to the team they were guaranteed protection and assistance from fellow Society members. The membership reached near across all the villain community, including the Brain and Mousier Mallah, Silver Banshee, the Toyman, Chemo, Shadow Thief, Poison Ivy, the Trickster, Star Sapphire, Professor Ivo and Amazo, Deadshot and Copperhead. After discovering the Society the Justice League took nearly two years of effort to dwindle the numbers.
While most of the Secret Society has been apprehended Vandal Savage still holds influence, with other smaller groups still cropping up over time. Most if not all of these different villain group efforts have been studied, bought or simply researched by Lex Luthor who still continues his own plans against Superman and the Justice League itself; his own roster for an Injustice League still within pocket.
Project Cadmus - Among many independent funded groups there is Cadmus, the secret brainchild between Lex Luthor, Vandal Savage, Count Vertigo and Queen Bee. The initial motivation behind the group was to study advanced genetic research on the superhuman community; or “metahumans” as they were soon referred to as.
Some of the initial tests involving experimental chemical mixtures had actually lead to the creation of future super criminals, including Blockbuster, Mammoth and Chemo. Cadmus was never officially connected but those like Batman kept their suspicions.
Testing soon took a new turn in the following years when the “metagene”, a unique genetic factor in certain super-powered individuals, was discovered. The project leads of Cadmus were tasked to test this newly discovered gene on others, finding subjects in street orphans and abandoned children. Project “Superior” dealt with genetically introducing the metagene into the subject’s systems, only three children surviving and each given a codename. They were Tye “Longshadow”, Asami Koizumi “Wind Dragon” and Eduardo Dorado “El Dorado”, each gaining special abilities that varied from air manipulation to astral projection and teleportation. The children were eventually discovered and relocated to S.T.A.R. Labs under the League’s protection.
Studies soon moved to cloning which became a personal project of Lex Luthor’s in trying to replicate Superman. Two clones were created, one a pure Kryptonian and the other a fusion of both Superman and Lex Luthor’s DNA. In future years the group known as the Titans discovered this project, freeing the fusion clone who would come to be known as Conner Kent a.k.a. Superboy. The other, originally called “Project Match”, grew more and more unstable in the years. When Luthor eventually released it the clone was deformed and not fully developed yet still had strength and powers equal to Superman. This monstrous clone, later known as Bizzaro, remained loyal to Luthor and helped in a number of his personal plans against the Man of Steel.
Project Cadmus’ works still continue to this day. Luthor and his friend benefactors still continue in genetic researches while performing their own individual actions. At this point their main objective had remained the same yet the goal soon became more and more apparent: finding new ways to eventually bring down the Justice League itself.
The Conqueror - Many millennium ago the universe suffered a great threat from beings known as the Star Conquerors. Their origin to this day still remains a mystery though some, like the Guardians of the Universe, believe they may have come from another dimension or parallel universe itself. These gigantic starfish-like creatures traversed through space and dominated entire worlds.
In response to this threat the Green Lantern Corp fought back against the Star Conquerors and, after many years and losses, was able to eliminate them. However not all were destroyed as one single probe, a smaller version of the larger creatures that could control the minds of others in a hive-mind state, managed to slip away to the nearby planet Kalamar where it remained hidden. For centuries it regained itself while lying dormant before being discovered. Now thinking for itself the probe decided to re-create it species from the bottom up.
The probe, unlike its other larger counterparts, was subtle in its domination. It invaded the planet’s political powers and managed to turn them against each other before weakening the planet as a whole. The probe found a permanent host in the form of the world’s strongest fighter, now with an army to help invade the next planet it sought.
The new Conqueror soon set its sights to Earth, a planet less developed than most in the universe yet producing strong warriors of many shapes and sizes. More probes were sent out to try and undermine Earth’s defenses for the Conqueror’s inevitable arrival. However its actions were soon discovered by a group of Earth’s protectors, including Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter.
In response to its discovery the Conqueror needed to gain its own Earth warriors to subdue the group before its arrival. Two of its remaining probes managed to find the strongest fighters they could, Superman and Batman. The two used their strengths against the heroes and nearly won before being stopped thanks to Martian Manhunter. The victory was short-lived however as the Conqueror soon arrived with its enslaved army from Kalamar and more probes that soon began taking control of other people and heroes.
Only thanks to the combined psychic effects of Martian Manhunter and Miss Martian, his niece, were they able to psychically attack the Conqueror’s hive mind and break control from it and everyone else it enslaved. The original probe itself was crippled and taken to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude to remain under close watch. From this came the inevitable formation of the Justice League, all heroes involved in its defeat, with the exception of Miss Martian, being the founding members.
While the Conqueror probe has been inactive it could in fact remain stasis or lying in wait for the opportune moment. Should it arise again it may have more plans for Earth and its protectors.
The Wonder Twins - Within the galaxy exists a warmongering, fascists empire known as the Citadel. The powerful leaders of this body have been in constant war and enslavement of races across the galaxy.
During their time of takeover their sights were set upon the planet Exoria. During the fighting the Citadel discovered two special individuals among the Exorians, the twins Zan and Jayna. Both were “metas” as locals called them, with unique abilities to change their shapes. Intrigued by this the Citadel ordered their capture to be experimented on by the Psions, a race of scientifically inclined beings.
Only through their teamwork and use of powers were Zan and Jayna able to escape imprisonment before fleeing to the nearby planet: Earth. Upon landing near Coast City both were attacked by a misunderstanding police officer, mainly due to their appearance and inability to speak English, and retaliated. Thanks to the intervention of Green Lantern John Stewart however they were stopped and taken to meet with the Justice League.
After the twins had explained their situation the League soon discovered the Citadel’s intentions of domination moved to Earth as well; a result of the twins practically leading them to the planet. The League, along with several other hero teams, intervened along with the Zan and Jayna who were now dubbed the “Wonder Twins” by the Flash.
The combined efforts of Earth’s heroes managed to subdue the Citadel forces and save the planet once again. However the Wonder Twins learned that their home planet Exoria had been destroyed by the Citadel after proving useless without more beings like them. Heartbroken the Wonder Twins were left with nowhere to turn except back to Earth. Finding comfort from the other heroes the two were welcomed with open arms.
While offered the chance to be a part of the Justice League Batman suggested they find a “better atmosphere” to adapt to and were thus inducted into the Titans group. The two currently remain active with the team while adjusting to life on planet Earth and its people, still acting as heroes and protectors as they did on their Exoria.
Doom Patrol - As the world became a safer place thanks to the efforts of the Justice League Niles Caulder, a genius, paraplegic scientist and philanthropist, began to devise the means to create his own superhero team. Like the League he wanted to keep the innocent safe but felt that not every threat could be met by the Justice League alone.
Niles Caulder began recruiting those whom he saw as needing another chance at life, all being near fatally wounded, sick or dying individuals who he used his own developed technologies on to cure. The first team consisted of billionaire Steve Dayton “Mento”, actress Rita Farr “Elasti-Girl”, former race car star Cliff Steele “Robotman”, and radiologist Larry Trainor “Negative Man”. All four were led by Caulder, being dubbed “the Chief” by the team, to combat forces around Hub City; their base of operations. The heroes were soon dubbed “the Doom Patrol” by the media.
After learning of the Doom Patrol’s existence Batman, speaking on behalf of the Justice League, did not condone the team’s creation without consent or advice. Caulder waved off any accusations about him trying to play hero, despite not being able to walk while working through others, and told his team would do the same job as the League; perhaps even better.
Eventually the Doom Patrol met a genius criminal known as the Brain. Caulder revealed he was a former fellow scientist who had a personal vendetta with the Chief after he became more successful; his body being severely damaged after an accident with his work before preserving his brain thanks to his assistant, Mousier Mallah. With his own band of followers the Brain and his “Brotherhood”, became the main enemies of the Doom Patrol.
During a mission in Africa to stop the Brotherhood’s experiments the Doom Patrol found a nearby animal sanctuary destroyed by them. It was owned by the Logan family and all but their son, Garfield, barley survived without being severely injured. He was taken back to Caulder who, after using an experimental formula, not only saved the boy but granted him shapeshifting abilities while changing his skin and hair color to green. Wanting to be a hero like them he was dubbed “Beast Boy” and made a member of the Doom Patrol; only for missions “close to home” that is.
The Doom Patrol operated for a total of five years before their battles against the Brotherhood led them to Maine where they’d found another secret base. In reality it turned out to be a trap set by the Brain, giving the heroes no choice but to either save themselves or save the nearby city of Codsville at the cost of their lives. Despite orders from the Chief to save themselves the Doom Patrol took the latter option, giving their lives to save others; Beast Boy the only one sent away to safety before it was too late.
After the loss of the team Batman came to Caulder, telling of his recklessness before taking Beast Boy into the League’s custody where he became a member of their Young Justice team. In Codsville a memorial was erected to the Doom Patrol and Niles Caulder eventually disappeared in exile while the Brain and the remains of his Brotherhood continue their activities.
While never officially active with the Justice League the Doom Patrol has another memorial within the Watchtower. And while Niles Caulder may be in exile even now he still plans for the next wave of his Doom Patrol team.
Justice League International - While the Justice League works to protect the world itself they are generally known as an American based team. Some in other countries had even come to call them the “Justice League of America” as an international insult. In order to strength these relations the League had set to recruit heroes from other nations as satellite members.
Discovering other heroes throughout the world the League extended memberships and cooperation among them, many accepting with a few declines here-and-there. These heroes would be allowed to act independently but if needed would have the assistance of the League; similar to their own rank operations. Originally Batman had overseen many of the initiates but soon passed the role of manager and International agent to Booster Gold; feeling he would enjoy the spotlight and world-wide fame.
The international members consist of Red Rocket from Russia, the Tasmanian Devil and the Ranger from Australia, Godiva, Knight and Squire of Great Britain, Nightrunner and the Crimson Fox twins of Paris, August General in Iron from China, Freedom Beast in Africa, and Mister Unknown and Doctor Light, not to be confused with the villain Dr. Light, from Japan. All have shown support to the Justice League and have been active during worldwide events where the League itself has been involved.
Circe - In the time of ancient Greece on the hidden island of Aeaea lived the powerful and dangerous sorceress Circe. Said to be the daughter of a Titan and a deep worshiper of the dark goddess Hecate she’d been blessed with powerful magical abilities and an immortal life. Fate soon changed for her after the arrival of the famed hero Odysseus, who bore her three sons, Latinus, Argius, and Telegonus.
After Odysseus returned to Ithaca Circe’s sons came to collect on their inheritance themselves. All three were chased off by Odysseus men but resulted in the death of her youngest son, Telegonus. Circe vowed revenge by having a curse placed on his house which soon lead to Odysseus own death. Hiw wife in morning prayed to the gods for justice on Circe and her sons.
Athena, hearing her cries, returned the queen’s prayers by enacting a favor on Queen Hippolyta and her Amazons: to kill Circe’s remaining sons themselves. Doing so now gave Circe the want for revenge against Hippolyta and the rest of the Amazons. For centuries she would attack them from the shadows before being driven back only to hide again until her next plan.
In present day Circe had taken the guise of Donna Milton, a wealthy lawyer, and used her powers to remain in luxury. Only with the arrival of Wonder Woman, the daughter of her hated enemy, did Circe plot again. To punish Hippolyta she planned to kill her enemy’s own children as justice for the death of her own.
Her initial plan involved using her powers to change three woman into her new warriors of vengeance. They included her friend her friends, Pricilla Rich and Barbara Ann Minerva, both wealthy aristocrats, and her secretary Deborah Domaine. All were changed into cheetah-human hybrid creatures and sent to kill Wonder Woman while in Washington DC. In the ensuing fight Pricilla Rich and Deborah Domaine were killed by responding police officers while Minerva escaped; she being dubbed “the Cheetah” and now vowing her own revenge against Wonder Woman for the death of her friends. Learning of their connection Wonder Woman soon found herself hunting for Circe who had disappeared.
In the following years Circe has never stopped in her plots for revenge against Princess Diana. This has led her to join with other villains and criminals such as Felix Faust, Giganta, and even those from the once thought Greek mythology like Medusa, Cronos, and even Ares the god of war who had his own scores to settle with the Amazons. She’d even joined with the legions of Anti-Justice League groups in the wake of Diana being a founding member to the team.
To this day Circe still vows her revenge and justice for the death of her sons. While she does not know it her destiny may go hand-in-hand with Diana’s as well, since even now Hera, the queen of Olympus, watches her every move.
