Description New York City, Five Hours Later

Nearly half of New York was already emptied of citizens, while the other half was still being ferried or otherwise escorted off the island. Areas like Harlem and the Morningside Heights were evacuated first to allow for more from parts like China Town and the Financial District could work their way back. Given the estimation that Godzilla would enter from that part of the island and would work his way from there to the Avengers Mansion, which was on the other side of Central Park, it made the most sense to work in that fashion.

Heroes who could not aid in the fighting but agreed to help regardless aided in the evacuation efforts. Those like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and members of the Heroes for Hire. Tigra, Hellcat, and Moon Knight helped where they could to either oversee people making it safely off the island of Manhattan and/or making sure things were kept in order.

Those that would and agreed to fight had been in contact with different members of the Avengers and/or S.H.I.E.L.D. as to what to do and where to go. These included members such as Sam Wilson “The Falcon”, the living Greek legendary hero Hercules, Jennifer Walters the “She-Hulk”, James “Roddie” Roads the “War Machine”, and Bill Foster “Goliath”. Even members of the X-Men, including James ‘Logan’ the “Wolverine”, Scott Summers “Cyclops”, Bobby Drake “Iceman”, Ororo Monroe “Storm”, Piotr Rasputin “Colossus”, and Anna Marie the “Rouge”.

Morning was soon to come, and where citizens and tourists once roamed were empty streets with only the roaring sounds of tanks and military units working to set up checkpoints and camps all across the city. Thanks to S.H.I.E.L.D. and members of the Avengers, like Captain America, they were strategically coordinated into lines and points of value.

The other group of heroes were those still within Avengers Mansion, the ones who knew they could be more use with the meteor than out in a battlefield. Those such as Beast, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Mr. Fantastic, Black Widow and even Prof. X and Jean Grey. And all the while Captain America lead the charge, using a satellite map laying out all points and movements of the forces he had to lead against Godzilla’s attack. From the sub-labs he kept in check with everyone, saying where and when to go and set-up what was needed for a hopefully successful campaign.

After finishing the last bits of commands he turned from the computer, walking up the group, and asking “Has anyone heard from Tony yet?”

Beast answered with “He said he would return once he brought the ‘big guns’. Whatever that actually means.”

Cap nodded before asking Prof. X “Professor, how is everyone?”

After a quick scan of everyone’s mind, throughout the city, he finished with “Still in-check as you’ve ordered. Though, if you do not mind, Captain, I would like to be somewhere I will be out or harm, but close enough to where I can properly read this creature’s mind. Hopefully it will help in finding a way to truly beat it.”

At first Cap disagreed, saying “I wouldn’t want to put you in the line of fire, Xavier. You too valuable of an asset, both to us and to your students.”

Xavier smirked and said “Thankfully I have more than advanced chairs to get around.”

It only took another moment for Xavier to contact this other means of transportation, that being the member of the X-Men known as Nightcrawler. The demon-like mutant appeared in a puff of smoke between Xavier and Cap, giving a little “Hello” to everyone in the room.
Seeing this Cap sighed, asking “You’re sure?” to Xavier.

Xavier gave him a reassuring look before saying “Don’t worry, Steve. I trust Kirk with many things, including my life. And Jean will remain behind in order to help with anything else on this meteor. And whoever or whatever is inside. And in the meantime I trust my team to you as much as everyone else does.” Cap seemed a little hesitant before Xavier held his hand, reassuringly and added “I can tell how worried you are. Even without telepathy. You CAN do this, Steve. And everyone believes you can.”

With a calm nod and smile Cap responded with “Bruce did say you always had a way with words.”

Xavier only smiled back before both nodded a silent agreement. With that the telepath looked back to Kurt and nodded. Holding the professor by the shoulder the two soon disappeared in a puff of smoke.

After waving away some of the leftover smoke from Nightcrawler’s teleportation Hawkeye commented “Maybe we could try that trick on Godzilla. Poof him all the way to the Artic or something.”

“Not that we haven’t considered it.” Mr. Fantastic said. “But apparently he’s far too big. We even considered using Dr. Pym’s specialized ‘Pym Particles’ to shrink him down.” When Black Widow questioned why that was denied he explained “Hank was afraid of the effects the monster’s radiation would have. In the best case scenario it could work, but risk destroying half the city in the process in a mini-nuclear explosion.”

“Sheesh.” Hawkeye said near shocked. “What’s the worst case?”

“An explosion that destroys half the world. If not all of it together.” He responded in a blunt tone.

While Hawkeye still had a flabbergast look Cap was quick to say “Which is why you can see how limited we are.” Turning to Black Widow he asked “How’s the military forces holding up?”

“I’ve checked with General Grayson.” She began. “Chokepoints and lines of defense have already been established as far as the Lower East Side. They’re still establishing the last troops and tanks around the mansion outside. New York City is starting to make Fort Knox look like a corner store.”

While Cap nodded he seemed distressed, prompting Panther to ask “Are you alright, Captain? Even with Professor Xavier’s words you still seemed worried.”

He looked to him before looking back to the map of the city, and the points that indicated the forces all around, before saying “This is going to be big. I think…possibly one of the biggest battles any of us has ever seen. Good chance of casualties along the way. And no matter how much planning we have I feel like it might not be enough.”

“I will be, Cap.” Hawkeye said. “You can do this. I’ve seen you figure your way out of things way worse than this. And you saved all our asses on more than one occasion. Everyday my wife and kids know I’m making it out of whatever mission I get dragged along for because you’re there.”

Cap looked to him and smiled a nod before saying “Thanks, Barton.” He turned and said “I just…need some air for a second.”

Everyone watched as he moved towards the elevator leading up. His iconic shield in-hand as he eventually reached it and turned, the look in his eyes a clear indication of conflict in his mind.

As the heroes watched Jean Grey stood at the back of the group. For a moment the meteor behind her seemed to fluctuate in color, and she feeling her head as if feeling something. When she turned the meteor seemed normal. Nothing out of the ordinary. She turned back, questioning what had just happened while everyone else prepared themselves.

*****

I see as Captain America, in his troubled state, goes to the highest point of the Avengers Mansion. He arrives at the roof and walks to the edge, looking out over the city and its heroes. He is troubled. Everyone can sense it. Despite his courageous face in order to inspire there is still the hint of doubt in him.

I am not allow to interfere in the affairs of Earth. Once too often I have directly warned the people of Earth of coming terrors, and such a threat is still to come, yet they do not realize it. I am limited, but that does not mean I cannot speak with them. I can still, in some way, provide what helps is needed in this desperate hour.

I only pray it will be enough…

*****

As Captain America stood on the roof of the mansion, looking out to New York City and hearing the echoing sounds of mobilizing troops in the distance, he felt as though he was being watched. He felt it before actually sensing it. The feel of someone somewhere keeping an eye on him. They were close too.

He turned, ready to throw his shield, before seeing who and what it was that had been watching him.

“Uatu!” Cap said in surprise, looking up to the bald and ominous being before him.

“Greetings, Captain America.” The Watcher said in his monotone voice.

“You’re here?” Cap questioned before realizing “Of course you are. Anything like this has to be big enough to catch your attention.”

“It is true.” The Watcher continued. “All great moments on this blue and green planet are mine to observe. And only observe.”

“Yet that hasn’t stopped you from helping out in the past.” Cap pointed out. “Without you Earth would’ve been destroyed a few times over. Are you trying to break your vows again?”

“I’m afraid I cannot. Not this time. The threat before you is great, but not so that I can risk breaking my vows yet again. The others of my race have already looked down upon me for what I have done. I try to gain what favor still remains. But that is not why I am here. I can see that you, Captain, are in distressed. Just as Charles Xavier had said, it does not take one with great power to see this.”

Cap looked down, knowing he was yet again discovered, before looking up and saying “This monster, Godzilla, I can’t help but feel it’s one of the strongest things we’ve ever faced. I’m worried how many of us will come out of this.”

“You have faced casualties in battle before, Captain.” The Watch pointed out. “And every time you and your friends have dealt through it. I sense there is something more. Something deeper you are afraid to admit.”

Looking up to Uatu in a stern manner he asked “Is your all-seeing power able to look through people now?”

“Even the most basic of observations, even by your people, can see this. The first step to seeing the truth is admitting what it may truly be. Tell me, Captain, what truly troubles your mind?”

Cap seemed more reluctant to admit it but Uatu had a point. There was something troubling him deep down. He couldn’t quite put in words how it felt, but like a bad knot in the chest that told something was wrong. Something he was afraid to admit to the others, worrying how it would affect them as well.

As he was ready to tell the Watcher a sound had caught their attention.

BUUM

Both turned towards the horizon. It wasn’t an explosion. Far too fast and low.

BUUM

Everyone had felt it. All across New York, at every checkpoint, the heroes and soldiers had heard before feeling it.

BUUM

Deep within the sub-labs of the Avengers Mansion the sound was heard. Not only from how it resonated but from how it created small tremors as it followed. They knew whatever it was had to be large enough to produce such an effect.

BUUM

No one had seen but the meteor began to react, glowing again as if in anticipation.

BUUM

Captain America turned, seeing the Watcher had disappeared. He only had a moment to realize this before hurrying back for the elevator. He needed to hurry back down to the monitors. Everyone needed to be ready and he knew they would need his guidance and teamwork for what was coming.

BUUM

Finally arriving Cap said “Alright, everyone. This is it. All checkpoints, sound off.” After all of the checkpoints, led by some like Captain Marvel, Cyclops, and She-Hulk, gave their word they were ready Cap finished with “Then this is it, people. The point of no return. Godzilla has arrived!”

*****

The water’s around New York began to shift and build as the giant mass of Godzilla finally emerged. With a giant splash the mighty monster emerged from the bay, roaring at his arrival. As he walked towards the shore he passed the Statue of Liberty, showing how we stood at about the same height as the monument itself.

His first step on land brought Godzilla into the financial district where he could already sense where the meteor had been brought. With another roar he began to stop his way through into the dense building area. Aside from breaking the side of a few buildings and creating giant footprints where he walked the monster seemed to make no other hostile action. And oddly enough so far he had not been met by any hostile forces either. Not that he seemed to mind or care as he only continued to stomp onward.

In one of the nearby streets a group of soldiers ducked down as Godzilla passed, the captain saying over his coms “Confirm. Target has just passed first checkpoint.”

From the monitor room in the mansion Cap said “Hold, everyone. Hold. Wait for my signal.” He waited, watching the signal that indicated Godzilla’s movements. One moment later before he declared “NOW!”

On Cap’s word the captain ordered everyone nearby to begin the attack. From both in front and behind dozens of tanks blocked off Godzilla’s path. The beast stopped when he saw this before they all opened fired. Godzilla roared as dozens upon dozens of rounds were fired, even to where the soldiers joined in for the sake of trying to take it down. Parts of the nearby buildings were hit, debris flying everywhere while Godzilla shied away from the barrage of hits.

Valiant as they fought the regular military was no enough. Godzilla took the offensive and swung his tail, sweeping at the tanks behind. Some were knocked over while others tried to retreat. In the process of swinging his tail one of the buildings was hit at the base, collapsing and falling on some of the others. Godzilla’s attention now turned to the ones in front, to which he began to stomp towards.

As they retreated the captain called over coms “Target is unaffected! Attack is null! We have to retreat!”

Hearing this Cap ordered “Copy. Get out of there. Pull back for the first wave.” As the men began to retreat, some still firing at Godzilla, Cap soon ordered “Team Atlas, you’re up!”

With that “Team Atlas” was called to action. Hearing Cap’s word Bill Foster, a.k.a. Goliath, and Hercules looked down from one of the higher buildings where Godzilla was. Both took a deep breath and nodded before walking back from the edge before running full forward into a jump.

“Heads up, you scaly bastard!” Goliath yelled as he fell down, using his growing technology to reach a full 60 feet before landing.

Both landed on Godzilla’s head, Goliath grabbing hold around the neck as he did while Hercules landed on his snout and began to punch into his nose. The monster began to thrash his head back and forth, trying to shake him off, while Goliath held with all his might. During the giant-sized rodeo Godzilla began to knock against some of the other buildings while his tail swung back-and-forth into others.

“Ha!” Hercules shouted. “I’ve faced titans more terrible than you, monster!”

Down on the street level Yellowjacket, Wasp Hulk and She-Hulk watched Goliath continue to tangle with Godzilla they waited until he was close enough. The two size-changing heroes were around the same height as Goliath, using their abilities to grow to 60 feet each. (Yes, Wasp in some cases can grow large as well) All were holding what seemed like a large set of cables.

When finally close enough Goliath called over the coms “Now!”

On his word both pulled the cord, heavy looking as it was, as far as possible. With it tightly secured they waited until Godzilla stumbled towards them. Wasp called for everyone to hang on before the beast’s feet finally pulled against the cord. The giant-sized heroes braced themselves as they felt his weight against the cord. With all their might they held on before Godzilla finally fell forward.

With a roar the monster fell down onto his stomach. A loud crash followed by a ground shaking BOOM shook across the area. Goliath and Hercules held on until finally coming towards the street where they jumped down.

As he landed Yellowjacket called over the coms “He’s down! Do it. NOW!”

Half a dozen military helicopters all appeared, carrying what seemed like a giant chain net. They carried the enormous trap that, as soon as they were above him, dropped it on Godzilla. Louder crashing and thudding was heard as the net dropped just as the monster lifted his head. He gave a loud growl as he was pinned down.

Seeing this She-Hulk gave a “Ha!” and said “Nothing beats the old wire trip followed up with a full vibranium chainmail net trick.”

Hulk gave an agreeing hum before saying to Godzilla “Not so tough now, are you?”

Back at the mansion Hawkeye, hearing this, asked “A giant vibranium net?”

Black Panther answered in-turn, with “A generous donation provided by Wakanda. We had made it after the last time we had to deal with a giant Doombot.”

Despite this Cap still asked “Report, Team Atlas? Is the target neutralized?”

“He’s down, Cap.” Wasp answered. “And I don’t think he’s going to get…”

Before she could finish she stopped as everyone began to hear something. The giant rattle of chains followed by what seemed like a low earthquake. She, Yellowjacket, Goliath, and the Hulks all backed away as they could see Godzilla start to rise, fighting against the vibranium. It did seem to be working at first, Yellowjacket assuring them that there was no way he would be able to break vibranium given its properties, but they were shocked when they began to hear the strain of metal.

“…oh crap…” Goliath finally said before hearing the snapping of chain links.

Godzilla finally began to rise higher and higher, the net breaking as he did, before finally freeing himself. Angered he roared at the heroes, Yellowjacket and Wasp shrinking down and flying off while the others stood ready to fight. Godzilla lifted his foot and brought it down, Goliath, Hercules and the Hulks grabbing hold before trying to resist the growing push of his strength against theirs.

“You may be…..mighty, monster…” Hercules said as he and the others struggled. “But we…are…LEGENDARY!”

With a final push all three heroes managed to push Godzilla off and back. He stumbled back from the push and wound up falling against a building behind him. As he did the entire thing crashed down with him, the three heroes covering themselves as the dust and debris flew towards them. A moment later they could see the giant beast among the rubble, thinking they managed to win.

“Boom, baby!” She-Hulk gave with a fist pump. “That’s why you don’t mess with-”

A giant roar cut her off as Godzilla rose to his feet. The anger in his reptilian eyes was clear as he turned, his tail coming at them. Hulk’s first reaction was to cover his cousin while Goliath and Hercules only braced themselves. All four were hit, Goliath taking the brunt and winding up knocked into an ally while the Hulks were hit by the tip. They wound up flying far across the city, practically towards the Hudson River. With that Godzilla continued on his original path.

As Godzilla advanced Goliath, starting to recover along with Herc, said over the coms “He broke it, Cap! He broke the damn net! And he just took down two of our biggest guns!”

Hearing this gap gave an annoyed sigh, Mr. Fantastic saying “But how? With all that vibranium it would require a great amount of strength. Far beyond what was calculated when looking at that monster.”

“Sometimes you can’t trust the numbers, Reed.” Cap said before calling over coms “Someone get eyes on the Hulks. I want to know their status, now!” After someone confirmed he continued with “Target is heading your way, Carol. Are you ready?”

Floating high in the middle of the streets of Greenwich Village Captain Marvel answered “As I’ll ever be, Cap. Just hope this is better than the giant net plan.” She then muttered to herself “Even I thought that was kind of dumb.” As she could hear Godzilla approaching she said to herself “Alright. Hope that little dose from the meteor is enough to get his attention. Here goes nothing!”

With her powers Captain Marvel began to emit a radiation that she had absorbed from touching the meteor earlier; as per Captain America’s plan. Her whole body shined with the power that soon drew the attention of Godzilla. He turned from his path and began to move towards where she was. Even seeing her Godzilla seemed to be drawn to her.

“That’s right, big guy.” She said, floating back slowly. “Come and get me.” She fully turned and flew off, Godzilla following still, making her report “It’s working, Cap. He’s taking the bait.”

“Good!” Cap responded. “Now lead him out. Back to the sea.”

Most of the other heroes were relieved to hear this, Hawkeye saying “Well at least are starting to turn around.”

*****

Outside the mansion the stationed military units could still hear everything going on in the city from a distance. While not fully knowing what was going on from what was being passed around via rumors and speculation they seemed calm enough.

A truck rolled up towards the mansion’s garage before being stopped by two stationed men, asking “Where exactly are you going?”

“Got a call about the people downstairs needing some more equipment for their little science project.” One of the drivers, a female soldier, answered.

Both soldiers looked oddly before saying “We didn’t hear anything out that.”

“Last minute word from Mr. Stark.” She explained. “You know how he is.” The two still didn’t seemed convinced, prompting her to say “Look, we don’t have time to argue about this. In case you forgot, we’ve a big-ass monster stomping his way over hear and we need every bit of help we can get. Now you going to let us through or do I have to tell Thor or whoever why we were late?”

Convinced enough the soldiers let them pass, opening the garage to the mansion and allowing the truck to enter. Once inside the door closed behind it, the two drivers looking to each other and nodding. The one in the passenger side pulled out a gun-like device that shot a small scrambler tool. It hit the nearby control box inside the garage, shutting off all power and security.

As both stepped out the woman soldier asked “Where did you pick that up?”

“Little present from the Tinkerer.” He answered as both began to remove their uniforms while heading to the back of the truck. “He owed me one anyways.”

After remove the military outfits the two soon dawned their true costumes, revealing that they were Crossbones and the villainess Viper. They came to the back of the truck, opening it to reveal a group of costumed villains like them. Three of them included members of the infamous Serpent Society, which Viper was a member of. Including Anaconda, Constrictor and Bushmaster. And finally, as the other waited, Baron Zemo finally exited. All were armed with their own weapons and fully costumed and ready.

Turning towards the door Zemo declared “I believe it’s time for us to make our house call, gentlemen.”

*****

Down in the sub-labs Cap continued to direct Captain Marvel on where to go, telling her of the “big surprise” they had waiting for Godzilla once he arrived. While everyone was looking towards the monitors Jean Grey stood further away in the back. While she was watching as well something was twitching in the back of her mind.

The meteor began to glow again, now Jean Grey seeming to “hear” it as it did. She turned, finding herself drawn all the closer to it. It called out like a beacon to her, bringing her all the closer to it. As he hand touched the glass the meteor glowed even more, she closing her eyes and starting to feel something strain in her mind.

*****

Godzilla continued to follow the radiation emitted from Captain Marvel. To him it was what he was still hunting, the meteor from before. But suddenly he stopped, seeming to sense something else. Something far more powerful. It seemed the ruse was starting to fail as Captain Marvel realized Godzilla was turning back around towards the direction of Avengers Mansion.

“Something’s wrong.” She said over the coms. “It’s not working. He’s turning back!”

From the other end someone said “Guess we’re going to have to improvise then.”

From around the corner of one of the buildings flew a group of armed military choppers. Leading the charge were the heroes Thor, War Machine, Falcon, Storm, the Vision and the Human Torch. Captain Marvel joined in as all rounded to start firing at Godzilla.

“Alright, people!” War Machine declared. “Time to bring the rain!”

Everyone began unleashing their firepower on Godzilla. War Machine, Falcon and the military choppers unloaded with firepower of all varieties. The Vision, Captain Marvel and Human Torch used their own “firepower” as they buzzed around like vicious flies to Godzilla. And even Storm and Thor summoned their own powers to begin to create great clouds of thunder.
“Time we bring far more than rain. Eh, Storm?” Thor asked.

She smirked, her eyes glowing white, and said “Indeed, Thor. Something to 'enlighten' him with!”

While the others continued to fire down on Godzilla the two thunder-powered heroes unleashed bolts of electricity on the giant beast. As before he was struck, roaring in pain as this added to everything else seemed to have a more effective outcome. Despite this, however, Godzilla continued to fight as swat at them. A few helicopters were hit by his claws in the process, one actually being caught in his jaws and crushed in his very mouth.

“He’s not going down!” Falcon declared. “Could really use some heavy firepower right about now.”

Suddenly from over the coms someone had said “All you had to do was ask, Sammy.”

Recognizing the voice some of the heroes looked back to see that, from Stark Tower, Iron Man had finally arrived on the scene. But instead of his usual types of armor he was now sporting his more heavily armed and dangerous Hulkbuster armor, which was already arming its weapons as he closed in on the battle scene.

Seeing this War Machine gave a surprised huff and asked “So this was what you were up to?”

As he flew around, firing heavy missiles and weapons at Godzilla, Iron Man said “Well had to clean some of the cobwebs off. Sorry. Would’ve used a bigger suit but, currently, don’t have one.”

“Big enough for me!” War Machine said, continuing to fire.

Hearing this the Human Torch laughed and added “So not touching that one.”

The barrage of attacks from all sides seemed to weigh in on Godzilla this time. Despite his continued thrashing he was still being battered by tons of attack. He stumbled here-and-there, knocking down buildings and causing more destruction. Despite this they still continued on their attack.

The Vision, stopping, had said “He appears to be losing his strength. We must try and attack with a more powerful, single strike!”

Iron Man flew in and said “Alright, everyone, stand back. Time to lite this firework up close and personal!”

He flew in as everyone else stopped, coming very close to Godzilla as he tried to recover. The large central reactor in the Hulkbuster armor began to glow as all the smaller armaments activated as well. Just as Godzilla could see him Iron Man’s weapons were fully primed and ready.

With a smirk under his helmet Iron Man said “Smile!” before opening fire.

The combined firepower of the arch reactor beam and the many other smaller missiles and explosives all detonating in his face and upper body, Godzilla roared before falling back on his side. Everyone watched as he toppled over, loud and thunderous crashes following. Buildings fell and clouds of debris followed before everyone could tell Godzilla had to be down and out by it.

Still hovering in the air War Machine flew next to Iron Man and said “Seriously, Tony. When are you going to make me one of those?”

Iron Man only joked “When you’re old enough, sport.”

Over the coms Captain Marvel had said to Cap and the others “This is Carol. Target is down. I think for good this time.”

From the other end Cap said “Good work, team. Now I want you to-”

The signal suddenly went dead, Marvel asking “Cap? Cap?” She then looked to Iron Man and some of the others, saying “Coms are down. Something’s wrong.”

“Then we need to head back to the Mansion. ASAP.” Falcon said just about to fly off.

He stopped, as did the others, when they suddenly heard a low grumble come from where Godzilla had fallen. Much to their shock and annoyance it seemed as though he was beginning to stir.

“You’ve got to be kidding me…” Storm said.

*****

After seeing that the coms and monitors went down Hawkeye said “You’re kidding, right? What the hell just happened?”

Cap, seeing everything go down and the emergency lights kick on, stated “Something’s wrong. Something’s very wrong.”

Black Widow, surveying this, also added “The entire mansion has gone into lockdown? Why?”

“There might be something wrong outside.” Mr. Fantastic suggested.

Cap, looking up, asked “Friday, what’s the situation?” No answer. “Friday?”

After quickly checking, by jumping over to the nearby power-box, Beast stated “Everything’s gone down. Apparently only the outer defensive shielding is still working.”

“As per Tony’s lockdown procedure.” Hawkeye pointed out. “Never fails.”

Suddenly they heard someone say “Help…” everyone looking to see Jean standing by the meteor containment unit. “Help…”

Cap hurried over, asking “Jean? What is it?”

“Help….us…”

Cap reached out, grabbing her shoulder, and asking “Jean? What’s..?”

When he turned her around her eyes were glowing bright yellow. Everyone was surprised by this, even Cap who looked directly at them. Clearly whatever was happening was out of her control.

“Help us…” she said, her voice sounding almost controlled in tone. “They…are…coming…”

She suddenly collapsed to the floor, Cap trying to see if she was alright. He shook her, seeing she was out cold. Even as Beast tried to wake her, hoping a familiar voice would help, she did not react.

“Did you see that?” Mr. Fantastic asked. “She seemed possessed. And she kept saying ‘Help us’, just like Xavier did.”

“Just great.” Hawkeye said, shaking his head. “Between the power going out, the mansion going into lockdown, and now meteor’s possessing people, what next?”

The elevator suddenly dinged, indicating it had reached the floor, making Beast ask “The elevators are still working?”

“It may be some of the men who were still in the mansion.” Mr. Fantastic suggested. “We should make sure they can get out. Maybe they can help Ms. Grey as well.”

He stretched his way over using his powers to reach the door. He was ready to force it open when the door began to open on its own. He stood, expecting to see soldiers and/or friends, but instead gasped by what did greet him. He didn’t have time to react before being grabbed by one powerful hand that belonged to Anaconda, who lifted him off his feet as she and the other villains exited.

The heroes, seeing this, all looked surprised as Baron Zemo stepped forward and said “Sorry, my friends, but I’m afraid your lines have been disconnected.”

*****

As the heroes saw Godzilla get to his feet Iron Man tried reaching over the coms “Cap? Wonder lizard is starting to get up. Could use a plan right now.” Without any word he then asked “Friday, what the hell is going on?”

[Coms aren’t responding. And all readings from the mansion have gone dark. Everything is in lock-down procedure.]

“Dammit!” Iron Man said. “Something’s wrong. Cap’s been cut off, and we need a new plan!”

“It’d better be a good one, Tony.” Human Torch said. “‘Cause he looks really pissed now.”

As Godzilla finally got to his feet, starting to rise, Thor finally said “Here’s the new plan. We keep attacking until he stays down this time!” Spotting as Godzilla could see him, growling, he threatened “Come, beast, and have another taste of Mjolnir’s fury!”

Before anyone made a move they began to hear something. A low hum that almost sounded like a generator building up power. It took them a moment to realize it was coming from Godzilla as they could see the spikes at the tip of his tail start to glow blue. The humming grew louder and the blue glow moved further up Godzilla’s back, up and up until all of them had that blue glow. The humming seemed to finally build to the max and Godzilla, looking at Thor, took what seemed like a deep breath before the glow was now coming from his mouth.

As it dawned on him what was happening Iron Man shouted “Thor! Look out!” all too late.

A giant stream of blue fire spewed from Godzilla’s mouth, hitting Thor and some of the remaining helicopters around him. While the god of thunder took most of the hit the choppers were practically obliterated in the process. Thor wound up flying down to the ground, his armor half burned off while seeming you be knocked out by the force of the blow.

“Holy S***!!!” Torch exclaimed before flying down to try and help Thor as he landed hard on the ground.

As the other heroes realized this new power Godzilla had they all looked back to see him readying for yet another blast. This time it was aimed at where Iron Man and War Machine were hovering.

“Oh no….” was Iron Man’s only words before Godzilla was ready to fire.

In a last minute effort Captain Marvel flew in the way, pushing the two while saying “Get down!”

In the process, however, she took the entire blunt of the attack. The only thing anyone could see was Captain Marvel being engulfed in a stream of atomic fire breath.

Seeing this Storm gasped and shouted “Carol!” for fear she may have been killed.

And through all of this the Watcher, floated away from anyone’s view, continued to watch the battle. Seeing what had currently transpired had added a small tinge of sadness in his eyes.
