Description
There are some aspects of the TFA Shockwave that I like even more than the G1 Shockwave, but I like the overall look of G1 better -- maybe because its classic, idk. Anyway, because of this, I generally see in my mind a sort of Shockwave hybrid, so while I was waiting for virus scans to run, I drew this.I liked it so much I colored it with copics yay!
It started as a random sketch so the torso was based off the TFA Voyager box art, but then it took on a life of its own.
So the details:
G1:
-Color scheme
-optic/lights are yellow instead of red
-Feet
-right hand has all 5 fingers rather than 3 talons (He's a scientist, c'mon he needs better hands lol)
-arm cannon instead of holding a gun (We love his missing hand yay)
-tube/hose
-Backpack/nuclear reactor (you cant really see it from this angle though)
-non-pronged horns
-removed tank treads and longarm-y extending limbs
-added details on his stomach area
TFA:
-style (obviously. I love the slenderness in TFA even though I am just as loyal to the G1 Boxbots)
-basic frame
-head shape
-hip canister things (idk they looked cool)
-chest design
-shoulders
Obviously his voice is still Corey Burton's adaptation since he voiced both of those series. If i had to choose character backgrounds between those two series, I prefer the Longarm Prime story for Shockwave just because I don't like how blindly loyal the G1 Shockwave is. However, I much prefer the Spotlight comic Shockwave over all other versions.
I imagine him as still HAVING emotions, but they are a faint subroutine kind of thing. Like all of his decisions are based off of logical calculations and efficiency first, but if pushed, his emotions will become stronger and have more of an effect on his decision-making.
As far as his relationships with other bots, I have always liked his relationship portrayed in the TF: Exodus novel with Megatron. I think he and Soundwave would be good partners/friends almost like brothers. I think he would have very little patience for other 'Cons like Starscream.
Anyway I'm totally rambling, sorry. And yeah this isnt a very attractive picture because it was just a colored drawing on paper that I scanned. But its the design that's the focus anyway.
Hope you like!

i wondered if the dude from g1 voiced him in tfa, they sounded similar, thanks for clearing that up. i guess there can be only one true shouckwave voice. a lot of ppl hate him but i think he's the baddest decepticon ever! in g1 he was ruthless and le the troops while megatron was away on earth, nearly eradicated the femmbots. in animated, he was a bad ass assassian who desquised himself rather well to become elite guard and destroyed both magnus and blurr! pluss his claws looked menacing. i also dug him in dotm, he was really deadly but i hated how he died so easilly

I totally agree. Well, he didnt die easily in DotM, really. If the damn parachute hadnt fallen on him, he would have been fine I think. I mean he was taking SO MUCH FIRE and wasn't down.
Shockwave is the best always. XD

Mixing the sleek n' slender TFA Shockwave with the very boxy G1 Shockwave seems like a silly idea, but seeing the end result I do agree, there are elements of both that make the design quite interesting. Specifically, it's amazing how much of a difference the change of hands and trimming of some "excess" features such as the tank treads can make in the over all look. Sharper, sleeker, this is a good Shockwave for taking on problems first hand, or with science.

Well thank you for the thoughtful comment! I'm a fan of contrasts in juxtaposition.
