Why yes. All of my 3-D art is done exclusively in the latest version of Autodesk 3ds max. And thanks !

I understand the mental ray depth of field. It uses f-stop (like a real camera) and distance of the camera target, but i cant seem to get the multi pass depth of field to work correctly.

I may be still a noob but one thing I know for sure - for maximum effect render your stuff out then use photoshop or other editor to create FoD. It's way faster and almost always with better results. Cheers!

I've been trying to use the built in modes because i thought they would be more accurate, but it just looks awful.

I am not saying you can't do proper FoD with your rendering software. It just makes the render take longer and you're bound to make at least one more render before you're satified with the result. It is simply more time effective to do postwork I hope that was useful.
