He's reaaaallly old. Nintendo's first handheld game. They were really simple games that look like that.

I used to have a pet robot like that. You were supposed to be able to stop it by clapping, but it wouldn't stop instantly, and would eat the rug frills with it's wheels... I'm sure it's eyes were red too...
