Description

An older picture I decided to finally finish.
The text below is an excerpt of a Thorki fanfiction I have partly written over the last years. I also drew some comic pages for it. Somtimes I come back to it to draw Jotun Loki and/or write a bit more, but since I'm not a writer this will probably never be finished and published anywhere. If you are interested, though, please read on. It's set after the first movie Thor and Avengers, ignoring everything afterwards. It's also influenced by the Loki comics. Loki was captured at the end of Avengers, brought back to Asgard and exiled to Jotunheim.

--------------------

Loki sits on his throne in an icy hall. Not the one they visited years back - that one was destroyed by the Bifrost - a new one, built for him, and mostly by Loki himself.

A magpie flies in through one of the high narrow windows and lands cheekily on his head.

“You have a visitor.” it says.

“I know.” Loki grunts and irritably waves his hand at the bird to make it fly away but it doesn't. “I could feel the Bifrost shaking the ice....”

A bolt of lightning strikes outside the window and the bird startles and takes to the air again.

“Show him in, will you.” Loki says, not moving from his seat. The magpie flies towards the doorway and vanishes through it.

It returns with Thor, who slowly strides towards the king of Jotunheim's throne. He stops a few feet from the throne and looks up at Loki with a sparkle in his eye that Loki would label as awe and joy, if he wasn't very much disinclined to believe such a thing coming from the Aesir.

“Brother...” Thor starts, but Loki sits up straight and interrupts him right away.

“Welcome, Odinson.”

“Loki...” Thor starts again.

“Has the Allfather sent you to check on me? Fear not, after all these years I am still very much exiled to this realm.” Loki says with an amused smile. The magpie whispers from Loki's shoulder: “Of your own choice. You could just leave, you know.” “I cannot. Now hush.” he whispers back out of the corner of his mouth, his eyes still on Thor, who answers:

“Over a year ago Heimdall informed us that you had become king of Jotunheim. I wanted to visit you right after that, as I had begged Father to let me check on you many times before, but he forbade it.”

Thor grits his teeth. Loki smiles sickly sweet.

“Did you miss me?” he asks mockingly, but Thor only frowns.

“Every day.”

Loki's smile drops off his face at Thor's sincerity and he scoffs, but says nothing. He cannot find the anger in him that used to let him come up with appropriately vicious comebacks to Thor's sentimentalities. “You are happy to see him.” the bird whispers from his shoulder and he snarls. Thor thinks his anger directed at him and takes a step closer.

“Brother, it is true. Asgard has not been the same since you left – not for me.”

“I did not leave.”

“Yes, you did. You let go.”

They both know what Thor means and are silent for several moments. Then Loki says:

“Why are you here, Thor? Why has Odin decided to let you come now? Or are you perhaps here against his will?” he frowns.

“No. I have Father's permission. I officially extend Asgard's greetings to the new king of Jotunheim, in the hope for peaceful and prosperous relations.” Thor bows deeply before him and Loki hums, pleased.

“Also, I have come to invite you to my coronation.”

Loki's eyes widen and he leans forward, angry.

“You would humiliate me like that?” he hisses.

Thor looks confused. “What?”

Loki stands up and descends the throne. “You know very well that I am king of Jotunheim only by the Allfather's leave. I am still a convicted criminal on Asgard. I need not be invited like the other royalty, only summoned, and I will have to come.”

Thor frowns. “You were exiled here with only the clothes upon your back. No aid of Asgard made you king of this realm. You are king because you earned that place upon the throne, by which means I know not. But king you are, Loki, and I invite you, personally, in the hope that you will agree to come. Brother.”

But Loki angrily shakes his head. “Listen now, Thor... I am not Asgard's jester any more! I will not give them the satisfaction of seeing me like this, the wayward prince, justly exiled and properly shamed, come to meekly bend his knee before the Aesir king. I will not let them see me” he gestures at his Jotun body, “like this!”

Thor stares at him for a moment, then says calmly: “Why not?”

“What?” Now it's Loki's turn to be confused.

“Let them not see you as an exile, a punished criminal, let them see you as you truly are: regal, and powerful. It is known that you are Jotun, now let them see what that can mean. Let them see that you are king of one of the Nine Realms, a realm of fierce, strong and cunning warriors who cow before nothing. Let them see you, Loki. I bet you whatever you want that not a single one of them will laugh.”

Loki is silent and they just stare at each other. After a while Loki turns and walks toward the balcony.

“A seed.” he says. Thor raises his eyebrows questioningly. “What?”

“My price, if you lose your bet. I want a seed from our mother's favorite tree.” Loki turns to look at Thor, who nods after a moment, smiling, undoubtedly because of Loki's referring to Frigga as their mother. “Now name your price.” Loki says, but Thor shakes his head.

“I will have to think on it. I will tell you at my coronation.” He smiles.

Loki scoffs but does not force him to name his price right away. Instead he asks: “Which will be when, exactly?”

“Today in a month's time, at midday. Heimdall will answer when you call and deliver you to Asgard safely. The celebrations will last...”

“For several days, I'm sure. I hope not until Volstagg's appetite is sated, or they will take forever.” Loki waves dismissively. “I will stay only as long as needed.”

He startles and shies away as Thor tries to clap him on the shoulder. Thor lets his hand hang in the air, looking a bit hurt, but then lets it fall to his side again. “I am happy you will come, brother.” he says with a sad smile and earnest tone of voice. Loki does not meet his eyes and ascends his throne again.

“Leave, before I change my mind.” He sits down on the furs and gestures at the magpie to show Thor out. The god of thunder looks at him a moment longer and then turns to leave, knowing that riling up Loki by staying will gain him nothing. “Farewell, Loki.”

When he has already left the hall and Loki can hear the Bifrost activating, he says, to the empty hall: “Farewell, Thor...”
