Description
Yep, the first picture of 2011 is fan art. like it really matters. A picture is a picture, doesn't matter when it was done or uploaded...ANYWHO.
This kind of... became huge. I dunno why. But it, oddly, doesn't feel very big. Maybe because I took several days to do it, and never really worked on it for, say, more than 3 hours at a time. Maybe because there's so much red and black that colouring wasn't a big deal. I dunno. Just doesn't seem big...
If you were to say to me "Goodness, Tam, the shading here appears to be quite strange." I would reply "You are indeed correct, sir." Y'see, first is was gonna be back-lit because of how the BG turned out, but it looked... really bad. So then I decided to use those little light spots as well, light sources. (So those little lines of turquoise-y light at character's sides and such) this of course means some characters have multiple light sources... Protip: Don't do this. It's very weird.
But it's all good.
I just realized I completely forgot to do shine.
...
WHATEVER.
ANYWHO again
This is virtually every character from a obscure little PC game called The Path. It's a horror type game based on the old story of Little Red Riding Hood. The six girls are the Red sisters, who of course have to go to Grandmother's house in the middle of the forest, and they must stay on the path.
In order from left to right (also by age): Robin, Rose, Ginger, Ruby, Carmen, Scarlet. The last girl is The Girl in White, or Forest Girl. She doesn't actually have a name, and isn't related to the Red sisters. (...probably.)
Behind each of them (minus Girl in White, again) is their "wolf." As you can see, Robin's is the only one whose wolf is actually a wolf (technically it's more like a werewolf but shush) and her design is closest to tradition Riding Hoods, soooo... I made Ruby's wolf a lot creepier than he looks in-game ._. GiW's is... well, a spoiler. But I couldn't leave her out D: Besides, everything is so hard to figure out in this game that it's sort of hard to spoil anything out of context. Even IN context... well, yeah. Confusing.
Anyway. The point of the game is to, ironically, go off the path. You can explore the forest and find items and places like a bathtub and an armchair or an abandoned playground and a graveyard. Once you leave the path, though, you can't get back. Though if you stand in one place for long enough, the Girl in White will come get you and lead you back to the path. You can also find her in random areas near items and such, and get her to take you back.
The thing about the game, though, is it's... not much of a game. It's more like... I dunno really. It's very artsy, and relies a lot on the player to come up with stuff. For instance after every wolf encounter, you go back to grandma's house and it's suddenly become a mindfuck dimension full of metaphorical imagery, but all the clues about what it's all alluding to are very subtle. There are several theories surrounding each girl as a result.
So there is no real "story." (Or at least, I doubt the creators are going to tell us the real meanings behind everything. It's more fun when it's a mystery, anyway.) The only dialogue is the thoughts from the girls about the items you pick up, places you go, and stuff you interact with. There aren't really any enemies (besides the wolves, arguably) but it's very good at being atmospheric and creepy. I had to set all the graphics to the lowest cause my PC is shit, but it was still super pretty and really sucked me in. (until I forgot to play it for months...)
I'm honestly not sure why I actually babbled that much at you guys. I'd say I really want more people to play it, but... I do but I... don't?
I don't know, I'm just very confused on my opinion of the game. I enjoyed it, but my feelings about it are just "meh." It's like... consciously, I just go "It's pretty and well thought out, but... meh." and subconsciously I'm a;; "This is though-provoking and deep and really really interesting." but I can't get all excited about it.
I can't even properly tell you who my favourite character is. There some sort of struggle between Ruby and Scarlet going on there. I like Ruby's design but when I finally got around to playing her, her personality threw me off a bit, but something about her got under my skin, so to speak. And Scarlet was like, the first one I played, and for the first hour or so (I took a really long time looking for items OTL;; ) I found her boring and strict, but then I found certain items, and her wolf, and her Grandmother's house... Then after a little theorizing of my own and a lot of looking online (as much as I love these types of games and stuff that you're supposed to figure out your own ending, I'm really crap at it.) I started to really, really like. And really feel sorry for her as a result.
I SHOULD STOP NOW OR I NEVER WILL.
WELL IN ANY CASE... IT'S GOTTA BE GOOD IF I ACTUALLY DREW FAN ART, RIGHT?
Anyway... Check it out, if it sounds like your cup of tea. There's videos of all the wolf encounters on Youtube and such like that if you're not really sure about playing it, too.
In fact, just try watching this video. Gets repetitive in the second half, but still good.
I'M DONE NOW.

Hey, I really liked the art here, dont be so hard on yourself. My saying is, 'the brush goes to where your heart is set.'. In other words, the art is fantastical, and I really wish I was that skilled.... I watched a Let's Play of this game, and I was totally tripped out! I have my theories about each girl, but Im not even supposed to be awake right now >_<

This is actually very interesting. I like the story behind it, and your work is very good. I like the smoke around the "wolves", and you can really get a feel for the characters by their expressions and poses. I'll have to check this out. Is the game only for PC?

Uh huh... Well, in-game is good enough for me. It's just that she has the same model as the GiW (besides the moved pigtails) so she has the face structure and whatnot of a darker-skinned person, but she isn't. BT

Wow.... thats good!!!!!! I love this game... even if i cant always work out whats going on XD If you ask me... I think the girl in white represents their innosence and purity... haha I'm a terrible speller soz. That's why she's wearing white, and why she keeps on trying to take them back to the path. When all six sisters have given into their temptations or "wolfs" in a way, they are leaving their pure selfs and innosence. Thats why I think she goes to grandmas, brings them all back, but at a price, their innosence is gone, they aree no longer pure, thats why her white dress is stained in blood. Haha XD thats my theory anyway. Amazing artwork well done!!! definetly faved!!!

OHHH!!!! (sorry again, just had another brainwave ) That must be why it says success when they have bad endings, because with the wolves their purity IS lost... which is part of growng up..... so it says failure, if you follow the rules and dont grow up but stay pure, which is why they just sit on Grandmas bed looking empty and lifeless.. because they don't grow up. Thats the way I see it. I think the games about growing up and loss of innosense XD Im sorry, got a bit carried away with my annalysis

I love it. Rose and Ruby are definitely my favourites, and I have to applaud you for managing to draw a different design of Rose's wolf than the one employed in the game that doesn't actually emotionally deviate from the design used in the game, which I think is the hardest of all due to how ambiguous her wolf is to even identify, never mind translate into a different medium. I also love the design of Robin's wolf, which you did indeed manage to make more terrifying than the one in the game while not meddling with its nature, and which I also applaud you for.
The only wolf I might find a little bit off in the drawing from how I interpret it in the game is Scarlet's, which I perceived to be much more feminine or at least more androgynous in appearance, and which I thought was intended on the part of the artists and designers because of the nature of the issues I perceived Scarlet to be dealing with, but I definitely don't think my interpretation of the features of any of the wolves is the only plausible one and the design of Scarlet's wolf you present here is perfectly fine from an artistic standpoint, so I don't have any actual criticism to offer; only a different perspective.

Thank you <3
Scarlet's wolf gave me a fair bit of trouble. I wasn't sure whether to make it look more female, or look more male, or look completely androgynous. (which is really hard to pull off and I probably wouldn't have managed it anyway, haha.) When I first played her part, I thought her wolf was male. But then when I went looking for references, it suddenly seemed more female. I think I tried to make it more androgynous, but obviously didn't pull it off xD

This game shows all the stages of our lives, and happens when we're to naive...
When we're little, we think all animals are cute teddy bears. What happens when we get to close..?
When we see stuff we shouldn't, we have nightmares we chose to ignore our fears. What if we're suppose to be afraid?
When we have alot of friends, we think they're all friendly. What happens if we meat strangers?
When we want meat someone who lears you into something we regret. Do We Learn From Our Mistakes?
When love is all we think about, we'll do anything to be alone with the opposite gender. What if they "hurt" us?
When we have something we're really proud of, we want to scream it to the world. What if you shouldn't be proud of it?
When we have learn from mistakes, we help our friends to stay out of the same problem. Do we listen to ourselves?
I LOVE THE GAME AND THIS PICTURE!

Duuuuude. This is one of the few games (or interactive piece of art, I don't see it as a "game") that actually had me terrified beginning to end. Something about the atmosphere, music and the overwhelming feeling of fragility had me practically shitting a brick everytime I did freaking anything. Even the Girl in White - regardless of whether or not she's benevolent or evil, she's goddamn creepy. Omfgaosidfuhs. I mean, Silent Hill 2 didn't have me as tense, oddly. And god forbid you look for any explanation of what the crap's going on.
Maybe my imagination is just insanely overworked. I dunno. But yeah, s'pose I'll stop here before I start to get into my theories, which I'm sure no one wants to here xD
But seriously, amazing job. I particularly like how you handled Scarlet's wolf, and the Girl in White's bloodstained dress in place of her "wolf" was a nice touch. I also love how you drew Rose, you can just see her personality^^

Er... I have no idea. I wouldn't be surprised if there were theories about her that may have something to do with that, but I haven't really seen anything about it. and the creators haven't said anything about... well, anything, mostly, but nothing about that for sure. At least, again, as far as I've seen.

It took me quite a while to figure out what I thought of The Path, but when I found myself constantly contemplating it and looking into other people's interpretations I realized that it obviously had a huge impact on me... so I love it!
This artwork is really great - you're very ambitious to draw all of the characters! (Except poor neglected Grandma, ha ha.) I think my favourite part of your drawing is the Girl in Red's delightfully twisted expression, hahaha. Well done!
