This is amazing,  I haven't seen retractable claws this accurate in this scale before! I've been looking around for a while and haven't found anyone commissioning something like these,  and I wanted to ask if you have a free opening if you aren't busy?

Also i would like to point out .... if metal were con legal i would have made these claws out of steel in a heartbeat and would have saved myself a lot of pain and annoyance at trying to mesh metal and wood!

Nice.
How does the "retractable function" work? I'm making a pair of claws for a cosplay, the design and making of is no problem, but I fail at the mechanics. If you want and have the time could you please explain how you did?

Yeah i am a bit busy this weekend (projects and fathers day!) but when i get a second i can give you a run down of what i did ... do you have access to a welder or someone who can weld for you?

Thank you Take all the time you need.
I work with cars so the welding part wont be a problem.
And if I cant do it I'm sure some one else at work can help me.

Okay so what is is basically is the track system for a drawer. I extended the track out and put it on the arm allowing for the end of the claws to be mounted a few inches from the end of the fingers and so that they would stick out about a foot from the end of the paws. I then took the excess track and cut it off (throwing a small bead of weld there to cover up the sharp edge and prevent any possibility of coming off the track) after i marked where the claws needed to be mounted i took a large nut and welded it to the track itself (this sucked due to the difference in metals since the track is very very thin you almost have to super heat the nut before you weld it on to get sufficient penetration) after that i took a piece of flat stick steel about 2 inches wide and welded that onto the nut making a mounting plate for the claws themselves.

at the back you can see there is some weld there to prevent the track from coming out the back ... now im not really sure why i did this but i believe i had a problem there and the track was too short and kept sliding off \o.O/ idk but i did it for some reason! ( in retro spec i believe there was a small rubber stopper there that melted from all of the welding)

The leather bracer is mounted onto the base track with rivets and that is what connects it to the arm (duh i know )

So using gravity you slide the claws out and then that second nut there was used kind of as a place to hold onto so the track doesn't slide back into your paw and when you want them back in you just let go and bring them in and hold them in place ... i would like to at some point rig up a pair with a spring loaded locking mechanism but so many projects so little time to struggle with my motivation to get out in the garage and do them

Hope this helped out and if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a reply

Thanks i really need to clean up the claws themselves ... want to make them a bit thinner and come up with a better blocking system to kind of lighten the load a bit more
