Description Something I whipped up for to use as a reference for Autumn-doll. The front-view one on the right is an older image, however, hence the overwhelming amount of anatomy mistakes but it'll do. I mostly just needed to show off her coloration. I kind of like her new pale-palmed paws and feet though. Eventually I will update all my character's ref sheets for SnB completely. u.u;

EDIT: Messed with this a bit more since overall this is probably the best reference image I've done of wereform Autumn. Mostly I straightened her legs a bit so she doesn't look so unbalanced and tweaked a bit of detail. Tempted to do these for my other characters as it does make it easier to have something I can continuously refer back to when I get stuck.

I like the subtle two tones with the browns.

That's pretty cool! I've really gotten into drawing your style of werewolves lately and I think this is a good reference of Autumn. She doesn't look so angry in this one.

She's just fun to draw snarly is all, she usually wears a neutral expression. And I'm looking forward to seeing more of your experimentation with my style, but then I suppose I'm a bit vain like that. XD

Ahh, so she isn't always angry or murderous? I think I will try a bit more with your style. It's definitely unique. I'll be sure to let people know it was you who originated the style.Β I am likewise looking forward to that tutorial if you get the time.

Will you be coming to Wednesday chat sometime with the guys?

She looks like a deeper, more vibrant red than I remember. Β I like it! Β Also, that's some seriously great detailing on the fur in her mane. Β

Thank you. I did darken her limbs a bit more as it just looked better with her lighter palms/bottoms of her feet.

I like the colors, and I've always liked that you focus so much on the anatomy. I might not totally agree with your choices, but it impresses the hell out of me that you focus on it and work so hard on it. You do wonderful work.Β

You sort of hinted at that a while back, I think, when you asked me why I put so much emphasis on anatomy for my weres and why I was very driven to try and mix wolf with human for them in a certain way. I gathered quite a bit from your preferences from that, actually.

An Autumn doll?Β  Hayden will no doubt pre-order one for himself.Β  And get himself a Hayden doll too.

Hayden: "I'm Vance Hayden!Β  The greatest werewolf in the world!"
Hayden in a falsetto: "I'm Autumn and I'm too proud to admit how sexy Hayden is.Β  But not anymore!Β  I love you, Hayden.Β  Why did I push you away all these years?"
Hayden: "All fine and well, Cricket.Β  You were just playing hard to get.Β  We both know you love me.Β  And now, we can be together forever."
Hayden in a falsetto: "Oh Hayden, you're right as always.Β  Now kiss me, you magnificent bastard!"
*Hayden clanks the dolls together*

Hayden must have had more rotten luck with women than James ever did.

Quite the opposite.

About half of the ladies of SnB have slept with Hayden at some point.

Whoops. My bad. I guess he has much better luck then.

In case you were a bit confused James is one of my characters. He's a super powered human (a "Conductor") who can control and manipulate electricity and he's David Winston's older brother. The reason I brought him up with is because as a teen, before he got his powers, he was a preppy rich kid who, although very handsome, was very annoying and a lot of girls were turned off by his egotistical personality. Basically, he was like Jonas Stildolph, though less violent. A lot of tragic events caused James to grow up to watch after David after their own father locked them up and was going to risk killing David in an attempt to cure him of his lycanthropy. I got a whole background character of James but I don't think it would be apprpriate to talk about him here.

I love the fur colours! I think the legs are a bit short compared to the torso, though o:

Er, well, legs, specifically. Her arms are rather long, I suppose. ^^

TeknicolorTiger In reply to TheGhoulAvenue [2015-03-22 02:31:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I might have exagerrated a bit as I'm still tweaking my anatomy for these guys but she is supposed to have a slightly longer torso and shorter limbs to make walking on fours more comfortable.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheGhoulAvenue In reply to TeknicolorTiger [2015-03-22 02:44:49 +0000 UTC]

For digitigrade characters its better to have the legs at least the same length as the head+body,
you can take the size between your fingers and move it down and make a little line or dot there when
you sketch, so you know where the legs are supposed to end. I think when the limbs are long
enough they should have no problem walking on all fours, but what do I know, I'm not a werewolf

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeknicolorTiger In reply to TheGhoulAvenue [2015-03-22 05:31:56 +0000 UTC]

Generally, yeah; if the arms are long enough and the neck is long or flexible enough so that they aren't staring at the floor when they run. And, also I'm sure that most people who draw digitigrade legs on a humanoid torso aren't really thinking how practical it would be for that character to run on all fours either...Or how practical digitigrade legs on an upright, humanoid torso is to begin with. lol The important part is that the elbow lines up roughly with the knee when they're on all fours if they want to move comfortably or like an actual wolf and have the back legs straight enough so that they're not bending too much. When I was drawing Autumn here I was basing her proportions on that of a dog's, specifically when its in an erect position, hence why her torso appears elongated and her arms and legs slightly out of proportion. If anything I probably drew her legs a little too bowed to be able to support her and not necessarily too short but they are roughly the same length as her arms actually. But what complicates things is that I'm not going for full out anthro-wolf, I'm also trying to mix in human anatomy as well and humans are definitely not meant to walk on four legs.

Anyway, the drawing itself for this is old. My new attempts look more cohesive as I've been referencing apes and baboons more for the torso.

TheGhoulAvenue In reply to TeknicolorTiger [2015-03-22 13:09:11 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. And theoretically, as long as the arms are long enough as well they could have super long digitigrade legs, its a matter of proportions. Though they would look really creepy at a certain length, like slenderwolves lol
I think its because most people care more about their werewolves using four legs to run faster, not for comfortable walks in the moonlight

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeknicolorTiger In reply to TheGhoulAvenue [2015-03-22 17:52:38 +0000 UTC]

I totally get that, but I don't think people often think about how much it can unbalance a critter when it's got super long, digitigrade legs, even just for running. Like, they're going to move like a grasshopper and with them having shorter arms that, physically, may not be as powerful as their hind legs, they're going to be really unbalanced. But, ANYWAY, sorry. I just really like studying anatomy even for fantasy animals. XD But, like you said, it is a matter of proportions. If the arms and legs are in proportion with each other and the length of the body, then it'll look functional.

TheGhoulAvenue In reply to TeknicolorTiger [2015-03-22 18:28:39 +0000 UTC]

I've seen animations of werewolves moving similar to grasshoppers, I think some people seem to like it despite it looking weird lol
Yeah and don't worry, I'm also really into it because the majority of my characters are fictional species. I like to have at least a bit of logic in my fantasy as well |D
I would probably have a werewolf character too, if I could draw wolf heads I can never seem to get them right

Oh good, and here I was worried I was coming off as some obsessed weirdo. XD

I actually have a lot of trouble drawing real wolves myself. Monsters or hybrids are easier, I guess because there's this sense of....lowered expectation? You don't have to make it look EXACTLY like a wolf, so long as it's just reminescent of one. But then I'm pretty nitpicky about anatomy especially when I'm trying to depict something that actually exists in real life.

Keep trying though, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
