Description My card for this month's #ATC-Exchange : ~skardash 's gorgeous Malachai. (I'm coming to wonder whether everyone on the internet has a male character named that, or some variation thereof... ) This was her first month doing an exchange with us, so I hope she's pleased! I've never done one of these for someone I actually know in real life before.

If you're curious about the title: ~skardash 's work-in-progress, Harbinger, takes place in a desert world long after an apocalyptic event that exterminated most of the plant life on the planet. Malachai is a surviving remnant of the ancient days, so he would know what green looked like in nature... at least, once upon a time.

Lol, yes... It actually doesn't take too long to do pieces like this because they're so small, so it's a nice way to work if you just feel like you want something to be DONE. This one I was able to finish in just a couple of hours, but sometimes they're even faster than that.

Oh, thank you! Watercolor is pretty tricky, it took me YEARS of practice to even get this good. And yessss, I think he's SUPER-sexy, so I was really glad I got to do him for this exchange! The mask is actually a big black facial tattoo, which is somehow EVEN HOTTER.

I've noticed a load of Malachis, too - must be a popular name, though I had not heart it until your Malachi. Nicely sized and composed, you do a lot with the space.

Thanks! It's been a while since I did a good old-fashioned ATC, so it was nice doing it again. And yeah, it's a surprisingly popular OC name, ESPECIALLY for bastardly guys! Which is funny, because it's a biblical name derived from the Hebrew word for "angel". [link]

Thank you! Yeah, I really like what I've seen of Harbinger so far. She's working on getting the comic available soon, but I've read the prologue. She's a fairly new friend, and one of the best things about new art friends is getting familiar with their characters and story. Because, you know, everyone totally has one!

Oh, thanks so much! I really do like how it looks in person- the scan is actually surprisingly true to how it looks in RL, which is a pleasant change- normally my scans come out a little on the blue or pink side. >_<

As I said over in your sketch thread on PE - SO PERFECT. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your care and consideration in keeping him true to his character even though it was during another time. I really adore the color gradiation in the sky - it works so well with the green in the trees and grass.

It's funny, in my head I never pictured him having the facial markings back in these days but it works so well with the design you've done for him. He definitely won't have the bandit mask, but some sort of markings are going to be in his design, yes yes. I can't wait to see this in the flesh so to speak!

YAAAAY! (Sorry it's taking me so long to reply to this, I'm trying to power through as much as I can of this damned inbox!) I'm SO glad he works as your boy. I was afraid the pose wasn't overly expressive... it actually dawned on me that a SURPRISING amount of my ATCs use that hand-on-shoulder pose! But I did attempt, at least. OH MALACHAI.

No, totally, facial markings ftw!! May I recommend three white dots in the spots where the "open" areas on his bandit mask are? It'd give him the same sort of design. Ooooor you could of course do something completely different.

Let me know whenever you want it, next time I see you I can bring it along.

Indeed! "Malachi" is much more common because it's the accepted Biblical spelling, but the other's definitely legitimate (plus, it has the bonus of including chai in it. Mmmm... chaaaaai. ).

I know! My Malachai got teased about it a bit in the motorcycle club he's in. Doesn't help he has tea colored skin! LOL

I know I got the spelling from Children of the Corn, so yeah, it's legitimate...-ish?

AWESOME!! Thank you!! Man, I was totally hoping it would, I really wanted to do something that fit with the storyline. The scan took some tweaking to get the color right, but surprisingly, yeah, it wasn't too bad! (Though I do think some of that is the fact that I saved it at a pretty low resolution, which always makes stuff look better. ) The RL version looks really nice, and I'm sure you'll see it eventually, I'm going to give it to Stacey next time I see her.
