Description
My April card for #ATC-Exchange : 's character Crii. This month's theme was the zodiac, and she mentioned his sign is Cancer. Although I have very little love for water signs, I've been itching to draw Crii for a while, so I was very glad to have gotten her this time around.I was a little iffy on the palette with this one. -__- The shadows looked really awesome when I blocked them in, but then some of the charm got lost when I added the color.
Micron pen, watercolor and white gel pen on bristol. Crii © *Adielle .

I wasn't actually planning on turning this into a series, it just happened to be the monthly theme at ATC. I might do something with it eventually, since my boy Malachi strikes me as a serious Scorpio, and I'm a sucker for a zodiac series. I will warn you not to expect anything soon, though, I've pretty much put personal projects on hold until I clear out my to-do list a little.

Aw, thanks! Watercolors are kind of my go-to traditional medium. I like to think I've learned a few ins and outs of using them for the last few years, so I'm really glad you like how this turned out.

Oh my! This really made my night, hon! I love everything about it, 'specially your attention to detail. You even added his little design on the ends of his armor! I love the color palette you used, definitely makes me think of water and the border is beautiful; very art nouveau-ish. I have to say, the way you drew his gauntlets is spot on. I am always so intimidated to draw them from that angle, because unlike you, I never get them right. XD
I'd love to have this, I'll note you with my address shortly. Got your note a few moments ago. <3

Oh, thanks so much! I'm really glad you liked it. I've actually been jonesing to draw Crii for a WHILE, so I'm glad I got you this month. I had this composition idea and I really wanted to run with it. I'm concerned I made him a little too attractive, though... it's a tendency I have, definitely. XD I'm glad I got the gauntlets right! I figured I totally had to include them, since they're one of the most frequently-recurring elements of his design. Besides, FINGERLESS NOMMMM. :3
I'll definitely send him out to you as soon as possible! I think maybe they've already collected the outgoing mail today, but tomorrow, definitely.

It looks fan-freaking-tastic dear!
The shadowing with the coloring I think looks great. It really caught my attention when I saw it from my messages. I knew I had to see it right away. This is just so much detail in this it is insane! Its like every time I look at it I see a little something else and its like Oooooo and I just keep staring!
I love the little crab you put in his hand, it is cute, it makes me want to go out and buy one. I love crabs lol.
Again fantastic job! Insane detail! Much love!

AAAAA THANK YOU! I'm really glad you think the shadow integrates with the color okay-- like I said, I think the shadows looked much better when I just had them blocked out in the blue. Lately I've really loved cramming a lot of detail into these cards-- I used to keep them fairly simple, but after having seen what other artists are capable of it just inspired me to do better.
And yeah, I think the crab he's holding came out pretty cute. :3 Not intentional, exactly, but come on... how can you not love something like that?

Well the more detail you put in it the more detail I want to put in mine to make them look even better, but I am still learning
*hug for the crab*

Thank you! I'm so glad you think so, I've been practicing a lot with watercolors lately since they're one of my favorite traditional mediums.

Wow, very nice design! I really like all the details in this piece. It must have been hard to do on such a small size!

Thank you! It actually gets easier all the time, since I've been getting some good practice with this size and format. I've found that I really like it, actually! It's a great way to play with traditional media again without having to turn it into this whole big production. Last month I somehow managed to do one with two full-body characters and a background in this size...

You're welcome! Oh yeah, well that's good! Sometimes it's nice to work small, it's easier to get a nice composition right away, at least! Wow, that's a feat!

Oh, thanks so much! I was really worried this would scan terribly and it would all come out like this weird amorphous blob of ill-defined color, but fortunately it scanned fairly true. Very glad you like the armor, it was one of my favorite parts to do.
