Description Commission of 's gorgeous private eye character, Hetta Hartchase. Her storyline uses a combination of Jazz Age and Victorian aesthetics, so I got a little inspiration help from Poiret (specifically, the bodice of his "Samovar" dress) and late Victorian ball gowns with the high gathered bustles. Costume research is the funnest research!

What a beautiful color scheme and the details are so lovely. Makes me want to go watch some old Β movies.

Ahhh, thank you! Yeah, she definitely has that old-timey movie star thing going on. Smoky eyes, Louise Brooks-style hair, little flapper headband... she'd be fantastic in black and white.

Interesting combination. I love how you mix two different eras together!

Thanks! Initially it seems a little difficult to merge them because the Victorian silhouette is all about flounce and organic lines, and the 1920s ideal is all straight lines. They seem to intersect in terms of how ornate the detailing is, so if you can swap out the Victorian lace and flowers and ruffles in favor of Art Deco-style beadwork and fringe, it works perfectly!

Yeah, I particularly like the idea of deleting all the Victorian details and replacing them with Art Deco ones without overdoing it.

*jaw drops*Β Β Β I can't even begin to tell you how much I adore this piece!! I love your historical designs but this one is definitely one of the best! I think my favourite details are actually the dripping pearls on her skirt and head-dress (which might possibly be my favourite head-dress for Hetta of all time!) I also like how curvy you've made her, you've probably got her weight spot on! That cane is stylish and compliments her pretty fan and amazing shoes perfectly! The detail you've put into this is simply breath-taking!Β Β I love the art deco patterns over her bodice and overskirt and all the gorgeous little additions such as the golden rose, the brooch on the head-dress and the glittering ruby at her throat. Thank you so so so much for accepting this commission- it was worth every penny!Β Β

Oh my goodness, I'm SO glad you like it! I think some of that beading made my hand want to fall off, but it was totally worth it. I had a TON of fun looking up details for the bodice and jewelry and the shoes. This was a great assignment! Working with her was fantastic. Thanks again for the opportunity!
