Description
I had this insane idea a long while ago, but got round to drawing it only recently. Please don't kill me.
The Basilisk and Tom M. Riddle from the Harry Potter series, in the famous 'Forbidden Friendship' sequence of the movie 'How to Train Your Dragon'. Amazing soundtrack: [link]
(The pose totally makes sense. He'd want to shield his eyes from that killer gaze. Of cuteness.

Thank you so much! Yeah, cute basilisks don't seem to be a very popular theme, goodness knows why...

It certainly would've saved Harry Potter a lot of grief in life if it had done so.

No problem also liked how you included some rooster into the basilisks design. kinda showing it's slightly like a cockatrice

Thanks! I think Rowling wrote in some HP book or other that male basilisks had rooster crests, which is also a legitimate version of the creature from mythology... And you're right, quite similar to cockatrices! And I don't know if the basilisk from the books is a male, but I always thought of it as one.

I have too, though people like to switch it around. I didn't know that Rowling wrote about the basilisk in great detail since Harry couldn't look at it directly for long. I like to think of the Cockatrice and the Basilisk to be slightly related but a different species though

It's interesting too when people switch the usual perception about the basilisk. Oh! I suppose you're right about Harry not really getting a good view of the creature - maybe it was described in poor petrified Hermione's scrap from her book? But maybe I read the info in the booklet Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and not in the HP books at all, now I can't remember and it's bugging me.
That's an interesting view, I think the cockatrice and basilisk might be related species, they're both similar and very dangerous!
P.S. lovely icon, what an intense eye!

Thank you ^.^
I sometimes like to think of the basilisk to maybe be a female. But i like to think of basilisk with impressive horns that look like a crown since basilisks are said to be the King of the Serpents. So red horns to the dark green scale background and acid yellow eyes.
I never read Fantastic Beasts and Were to Find Them -though every time i saw it in the bookstore i was itching to read it- it may be in it.
Well in some legends it says the cockatrice has deathly breath and the basilisk deadly eyes, and how they were raised it different. A toad sitting on a hens egg for a basilisk and i don't quite recall for the cockatrice

Oh, a crown-horned basilisk is a very interesting concept, too, that'd make quite a powerful image!
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is most likely still easily available, and I remember it being a rather nice booklet and having a low price, so I'd recommend it if you stumble upon it sometime.
Yes, both the beasts' most famous killing techniques are similar. I don't remember how a cockatrice is born/hatched, either, maybe the myths don't say...

Just how i pictured them
But i have a bad habit of making some animals i draw look dragon like and with a snake i make it even more so...
I'll look it up since it always piqued my interest with what Rowling thought up of as magical creatures
Ah-ha i know the difference! Thanks google XD
A basilisk is born from a hen's egg whilst a toad lays on it till it hatches and the same is for the cockatrice except a serpent lays on it till it hatches

Basilisk is a male, therefore like Night Fury is a male too ^^, Tom Riddle named Basilisk "Snakey" like Hiccup named Night Fury "Toothless"

Yes, Basilisk is a hottie male , therefore, animations created male/masculine-bonding characters, love the Basilisk's eyes, they're the beauty like toothless, well I wish you can draw Tom Riddle and his Basilisk meet Hiccup and Toothless in person-and-animal in the crossover style
