Description
kitbash for my comic book.this is a 1:35 scale plastic model using parts from Tamiya, Revell, and Trumpeter models. it depicts a vehicle from my fictional comic storyverse.
...
"The IL29 has distinguished itself as the premier heavy tank for the Imperial forces, incorporating a suite of defensive measures to keep crew-survivability exceptionally high. Incorporating a specially-constructed armored shell around the hull, turret, and turret basket capable of resisting all but the heaviest guns in the Republican arsenal, this shell is bolstered by additional skirt and applique armored at key frontal locations, as well as early-production ERA panels to deflect shaped-charge attacks. Additionally, there is a small loader's hatch in the rear of the turret that can serve as a crew escape route for a disabled tank.
Designed to tackle the largest of enemy vehicles both at range and in close-quarters, it features the common 107mm gun and 7.7mm coaxial mounted on the ON-89, along with a 20mm cannon and a remote-slaved .52 machinegun mounted in a mini-turret on the deck of the main turret with a limited forward traverse.
The IL-29 is most commonly found in Heavy Armored Rejments, crewed by section and company commanders, serving as both a mobile headquarters and direct-assault weapon."

Wonderful design. I love how at first, it appears to be a standard tank, but look at it a little closer and the asymmetry and stacked pieces make it much more interesting and unique.

I've been meaning to paint these and make them even more unique...I should probably get on that.

I guess all that ERA is needed because there's almost no way this machine could fight hull-down. I don't think anything this tall's been fielded since the Great War, or even earlier. I used to think the cupola on the M551 was tall, but this takes the title.

also...you use ERA because your armor is incapable of taking certain classes of anti-armor hits (which the ERA is capable of defeating), not because you can't avoid being seen/hit. if you can't avoid being seen/hit, you've already lost the game.

couple things:
1) the M1 is taller than the M551
2) this is based on an M60, which is nearly a meter taller than either of those
3) most of the tanks in WW1 were shorter than the M60

nope, not a Panzer III. it's from a relatively obscure vehicle, but there are some clues in the other models if you look close

Not fully sure but it looks like a early tank because of the size and look of the turret. But the man one looks like a challenger or one of the newer abrams. So what is it?

somebody else already guessed the main turret and chassis; check their comment below.
the little turret is indeed from an "early" tank, but maybe not as early as you'd think

What is it?

I feel like since it's stumping so many people, I don't want to give it away just yet
I'll give you a hint, though: it's from a really crappy tank.

I'm thinking maybe it isn't a tank but an armored vehicle, it would answer the small turret and why it isn't that old. am i on the road here?

not by the standards of the day, no I think these days we'd consider it an armored car at most, but back then it was certainly a tank in the contemporary sense.

yeah, this one was a lot of fun to put together. much simpler than most of my other ones, even though it doesn't look that way at first.

half of this model consists of portions of an M60A1, so the resemblance is more than an illusion!
