No kidding. A big tough 'Bot like Ironhide is a freaking Vanette? Now this is a form for him. Or at least a big SUV or truck.

At least in G1 he had an excuse,Β He didn't pick the formΒ Β Teletran did.
I guess was no near by vehicles out inΒ the open that fit what ever criteria matched Ironhide.
Since none of the autobots where originally millitary by design,Β Ironhide's default vehicle would be some kinda transport vehicle like munitions, troops etc.
Funfact in Russia his name is Bronevik meaning "Armored Car"Β
So a Van probably closer than say a pickup truck in structure.

That is true. But it could have given him a more fitting one,like a troop transport or an APC. But those would not blend in well.

Yep stealth was the idea of the earth modes.Β So Ironhide was probably most reasonable.
