-------------------------------

Alright, we're coming to a close with this tale in particular. In this chapter, Daria's reversal finally concludes. But will she be able to reconcile with her new friend?

-------------------------------

10 AM. The students' third day in spring break had dawned not long ago. A patient Kailyn awaited next to her room, outside. She had gotten a text message from Ellie during breakfast saying she needed to talk with her over the previous night. Kailyn didn't want to be left waiting like before, but she felt much calmer than yesterday and decided to hear it from her friend.
Soon, Ellie was walking to meet her. The first thing Kailyn noticed was how tall and different she looked comparing to the previous day. She instantly recognized her, though, because of what she was wearing.

"So you brought the clothes we got you yesterday", she observed.

"Oh this?" said Ellie, holding her hair and looking up. "I just brought it because I feel confortable with them." She was lying about it. The main reason she had brought the clothes was so Kailyn could still recognize her despite all the changes that had happened to her.

"Don't try to fool me. I can see through you." Kailyn knew her friend was lying, but she didn't figure out the real reason why. "You're trying to impress me. Well don't think I'll feel more appealed to because you brought those clothes we bought together. Now, tell me what happened yesterday."

Ellie went straight to the point. "I'm not going to lie to you. I ran from you because I got scared. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't afraid of you. And I'm sorry I didn't say anything. I should have at least sent you a text, but my mind was in a mess. It just happened so fast..."

"What? What happened so fast? What WERE you afraid of?" Kailyn was trying to get answers from her friend. She then pointed at Ellie's head: "And how did you get so tall? I thought I was taller between the two of us!"

Ellie, or rather Daria, decided it was time she told the truth. "Honestly? Because I'm not who I said I was."
She then told Kailyn her real name, and went down and explained everything that had happened to her during that spring break, from waking up in her best friend's body, to crying because of her boyfriend not being able to recognize her, to the changes that were happening between the two, and to being afraid Kailyn would freak out if she saw her changing.

While her friend was talking, Kailyn kept a straight expression on her face. When she saw her friend had finished, she spoke up: "I had no idea you held me in so low regard. Or that you thought I was dumb to the point of believing that."

"But Kailyn, I don't hold you in low regard, and I don't think you're dumb." Daria was trying to express herself, but was interrupted by an increasingly angrier Kailyn.

"Oh really? You don't? Because friends don't excuse themselves with phoney little stories like yours! What on Earth have you been reading to come up with something like that?! If I knew you were gonna ditch me and later tell me such sorry lies!!"

Daria remained calm, even though her friend was fuming. "But Kailyn..." she stated "...everything I told you is true." That last segment sounded nothing like her voice at all.
In fact, almost immediately after she said it, her face started to reshape. Her nasal bridge got much more prominent, while her cheeks became less puffy and her jawbone reshaped into a triangular form. Her own hair blossomed back into its original length and form, while growing darker until it regained its regular dark brown hue. Finally the changes settled, restoring her real form once again.

Daria had planned for it to happen like this. When she had woken up an hour before, she had seen the changes that had happened overnight and sensed she was about to fully revert back. Knowing this, she then sent the text message to Kailyn to apologise to her. She figured the only way to clear it up was to speak the truth and let her friend see for herself. During their talk, Daria kept feeling her throat pressing harder and her face tingling more, so she was knew how close the changes were from happening.
But now, after everything she had been through, it was over. She had just reverted back to her own look. The final changes to her body had happened... right in front of a stupefied Kailyn.

"But...." Kailyn stepped back from Daria. She could not believe what she had witnessed. Her friend had just changed! In front of her! Was this real? Was she dreaming this out of guilt? Was she going mad?!

"Kailyn," Daria was now speaking with her own voice, in her own body, with her own conviction, "I'm sorry it had to be like this. I know it feels weird. It's even worse for me. Please, don't freak out. That's what I was scared of."

Kailyn got closer to Daria. Not one of them talked. She placed a hand on her face to feel her. Everything felt real. Daria looked at her with an expression of pity, both for herself and for her friend. Why did they have to meet under these circumstances?

Kailyn looked up. "E-Ellie?"

"It's Daria now," she answered, "but I'm still here. And I'll always be." These words did it. Kailyn pulled herself closer to Daria, and the two of them tilted their heads towards eachother until they touched.

"I'm so sorry. If I had known of this..." Kailyn was dangerously close to burst into tears.

"You don't have to apologise. If it were me, I wouldn't have believed in it either." Daria conforted her with her words. "But it's OK now. I'm all right."

Kailyn began weeping at the words of her friend, and soon Daria was crying with her as well. Together they cried for a while, washing all their previous worries away. The two girls had reconciled. They were friends again.
