Very nice DOF ... you give character to an otherwise "normal" cow. Impressive.

LOL The cow really looks angry! I like the focus in this picture. ^^

Really nice idea.
How much of this was done in camera with dof, and how much in post?
It looks fantastic

Thanks.
All of the DoF was done in post-processing using the blur tool in Photoshop.

That's an awesome shot!
Love three main colours / tones used there.
And the focus on that one beast works really well.
Nice work mate.

Nice shot, the sharpness of the foreground and the out of focus of the background is perfect. Was this in camera or post processing? If in camera what lens did you use to get that effect with a 18mm Focal Length? My lens only do that at full zoom! Again nice shot.

Thanks. The shallow DoF effect was done with post-processing in Photoshop. I was just using the kit lens, so shooting at f/7.1, 18mm made the DoF in the original shot seem to be pretty much infinite. Thanks for the !

I was hoping that it was a lens, oh well still a great shot and you are welcome.

very cute and funny shot, I like the nice contrasty colors. Did you use HDR and any additional post CS2 work?

Thanks. I used Photoshop 6.0, and I manually combined a darker exposure of the sky with a brighter exposure of the foreground to create my own high dynamic range. I also used the blur tool to create the effect of a shallow DoF, and did a few other things, such as adding the vignetting and increasing the contrast in the sky.

Just the kit lens. The DoF effect was added during post-processing.

The depth of field in this photo is just incredible! And of course, I adore the colors. The green is so intense and goes very well together with the beige/brown colors of the cow. The sky is great too, it's like it's alarming for a storm.

Thanks! The sky was pretty crazy that day. I was half expecting to see funnel clouds reaching down at times. It just ended up raining a bit though.

nice one!
did you add vignetting via software? or it's natural?

tfavretto In reply to Quelarion [2007-01-03 14:51:29 +0000 UTC]
I added the vignetting manually by using the burn tool around the edges with successively smaller brush sizes in Photoshop. I add that type of vignette to virtually all of my photos.

Very interesting photo. I don't think I've ever seen a whole pasture of cows lying down.
Although, you'd think that the "protector" would be a bull.
Excellent capture

Thank you. And I'm not sure why they were all lying down like that. It didn't really seem strange at the time for some reason, but I can't think of another time that I've seen that before.

Seems to me from the look of that cow that it was a good idea to stay a few steps back.
