Description
An M7-class solar flare from Sunspot 696 hurled a coronal mass ejection toward Earth that sparked extremely bright aurora borealis over much of North America during the early morning hours of November 8, 2004. This shot is actually facing east-southeast, rather than north.Model: me.

The idea and the phenomenon is great. Eventhough I think you played a lot with photoshop on the channel mix. There's lots of red used here and It can be noticed on the model and on the plants.
Good job anyway.

I am very jeaolous that you have a better chance of seeing the aurora borealis from where you live than I do in south east NY

wow... This is so wonderfull, it doesn't even look realistic... You know, like you pasted the sky in it with PS.
It's weird to see the plains and yourself bathing in golden sunlight, while the sky is looking like 3 AM "outdoor disco lights night"

Thanks. And we can thank the back of a highway convenience store for the lighting. No sun required.

15 sec exposure was enough to get this light? man i was trying with our northern lights once and my pics turned out horrible i think maybe they weren't strong enough.. anyway this is an amazingly beautiful shot!

15 seconds was actually the most my camera would allow at the time, but they were so bright that night that it didn't matter.

I really like the pic but it is super pixelated, so that is what ruins the pic for me, but it really is astounding to experience something like this, what a rarity!
Man, you been holding out on us for two years?!

Yeah, it might be a bit pixellated in some spots due to the filtering process I used to remove all the noise. And I had this shot up on my old account at [link] , but I took most of the shots down from there to post better versions on here.

Thank you. And you can see the northern lights from as far south as California, it's just a matter of knowing when to look.

I'm N 55 or so and I never see them, and regularly miss them when it's supposedley possible. Must be clearer in America or something like that.
