Description
An M7-class solar flare from Sunspot 696 hurled a coronal mass ejection toward Earth that sparked extremely bright aurora borealis over much of North America during the early morning hours of November 8, 2004. This shot is actually facing east-southeast, rather than north.Model: me.

Yeah, I wish I had a better camera back then so I could have done more justice to just how ridiculous that night's display was. But I guess I have another solar maximum to look forward to in a few years, so I'm sure there will be a few more nights like that in the future.

Nice photo.
Guess the full format is amazing, the colores are breaking up here.
I see the constallation Orion at right, so its a sharp photo.
Auroras are beautiful, much more than a photo can tell.
(I live in the aurora belt, so I know)
I'm impressed that you not moved for 15 sec, you are all clear!

Thanks. And they can be seen from as far south as New Jersey every so often, but there has to be a strong geomagnetic storm in progress and you have to be well away from city lights to see them.
